I'd just make the briefings as boring as possible. Don't try to have someone go out there and out spin the press/Democrats. Just let each reporter talk for thirty seconds and then have your press secretary answer "who's to say, yes, no, I doubt it, maybe etc" before reading a paragraph about the administrations plans for the week. It's not some sacred event. The press secretary is basically in charge of propaganda.

I've thought the same thing. Why should your press spokesman have to be Jeopardy contestant quick, have to answer any question on anything? There's no fundamental purpose for that. Press can submit their questions in writing. Would also like Trump to give a recorded state of the union speech. He can put it on Youtube. The pomp of the way they do it now seems childish.

Are they that scared of the press?

They are not scared of the press. The press is the enemy and the press is not doing its job. Why put up with them?
and a primate reference and Nazi reference in one sentence
I remember when one Congressman called obama the liar he turned out to be regarding health care and it was a national crisis. The obama admin would not have lasted a week in a press room like there in now.
You are a simpleton.

More like it's time to discipline the press. :-)

Answering questions is hard.
When the press is only interested in finding out how to destroy your administration, then yes trying to play their game is difficult to do and maintain any resemblance of dignity.
What Spicer should do is declare that the administration is not concentrating on the trivialities that the press is interested in. If they want to hold their own news conference and amuse themselves with their latest rumors, then they should do it without administration attendance.
It's like you are presenting your status and plans for an important project at work, and the meeting room is filled with people who are trying to make the case that you are having an affair with your secretary. You know it is bullshite, but they keep coming up with new 'anonymous' allegations which you have to fend off. Since you know they are chasing a malicious rumor, you begin to lose patience with the group when they show absolutely no interest in the major work you are doing. You should just walk out and get back to work - issuing progress reports to your boss and/or clients.
I suppose you would rather that the guy devote all his work time to anticipating what new allegation might come up and worrying about the damage it is doing to your reputation and relationship with your wife.

That's bull shite.
Trump requested a fricking "loyalty pledge" from the FBI director (who is investigating his campaign's ties to Russia). He later fired him for reasons that are still changing. He also lied about Comey telling him he wasn't under investigation 3 times. All of that is unprecedented.
Now what part of that is the media's fault? Where are they ganging up on him?
You're running out of excuses and "they're all out to get me" is just pitiful. Ooen your eyes !

Not honest answers it is mainly "alternative facts" and spin.

I saw Newt speak of this and I don't think he said this. I think he said Daily press briefings in print each news story checked off and signed off on- are common, though?

Newt said he would have Sean, or Sarah, go to the briefing room every day and talk about what the administration is doing, give updates, etc.
The difference? The press corps wouldn't be there. So, it would be kind of like the President giving a national address. Anyway, that's what I heard him say. The primary point being that the reporters would no longer be present.

in other words, Sean or Sarah would come out and give an update regarding what is happening with the Administration, only without the reporters. Put it on Facebook, YouTube, C-SPAN and any other network that wants to air it.
Given the hysteria of the White House Press Corps, I think it's a good idea. Thoughts?
I think it is a phenomenal idea....the entire white house press conference thing is nothing more than a dissemenation of white house propaganda...all that ever comes of it outside of the things the white house wants in the public (and this is not just the Trump whitehouse it is all presidents) is how the press secretary is an a-hole...
A true hardcore journalist would not waste their time with that bullshite....it is a GREAT idea from the press standpoing...it is a terrible idea from the whitehouse standpoint because they will have only one outlet for their propaganda and will lose almost all control of the narrative....

While not even remotely true the problem is that Trump's administration has not learned how to use the press to their advantage like Reagan, Clinton and Obama did....those three had an enemy press also...because the press is all about scooping one another and proving who has the biggest balls to be the most disruptive....but those three controlled that shite to their advantage every time....and they didn't brag about their manipulation...in fact, with the exception of Obama, who had them so hypnotized he could have been naked and unless he mentioned it they wouldn't...they complained about the press and pretended the press was besting them at every turn....
The press can be used to promote your propaganda....but it takes some effort other than name calling and treating them like an enemy....Trump will learn...

I'm not sure how I feel about no briefings or briefings without the press. One the one hand, yes the media in large part is against Trump and any other Republican President, and will nitpick everything to stir up controversy. They will no doubt cover them unfairly compared to how they have covered and/or will cover a Democratic President. On the other hand, being a big liberty and transparency guy, I want there to be freedom to ask questions and challenge any administration when it needs to be done.
I am certainly conflicted.

Good lord you people have a sore pussy...y'all need some vagiseal....I didn't say anything about Spicer or Sarah Huckabee...I said the press secretary....anyone serving in the post...for any president....not the individual but the office....they are all portrayed as an idiot a-hole because their job is to spread the message and control the narrative for the president no matter what...
I actually think Spice is probably a decent person....Huckabee seems so far out of her element that it is pitiful....it has nothing at all to do with individuals...the office itself requires blind allegiance to the president's narrative...good, bad or indifferent....which means you are going to come off as an obtuse, stupid, ignorant a-hole most of the time....

It isn't the Press anymore and you know it. It's a hostile group of uncouth bastards and bitches hell bent to play gotcha and make a name for themselves, and bring down the administration
Trump being Trump caused this. He says wild shite and says them at odd times. Add to that Spicer just looking like a redass the entire time. He IS getting better. But he initially had the hellraiser attitude it's like any media. You see it in sports media all the time. Big loss or tough game. Player comes out with a scowl and some guy will ask needling questions. They are hoping to get a Ryan Leaf type meltdown.
With Spicer and the White House this is multiplied x 10. They are trying to goad him into a fight. To his credit he is doing well. He stammers occasionally but looks less like the guy that will jump over the podium.
The Press Secretary NEEDS to be a robot. Dull as dirt. And they need a LONG list of cliche non answers. "I'll get back to you" "that's the Presidents call" "were still looking into that" and on and on. Bore them to tears and they will slink away.
They need a masterful debater and political consultant. I can't remember his name but he's on Bill Maher often. Sort of chubby. I believe worked for Bush and Kerry and Bill Clinton. He's that guy who could walk into a debate and be told what side he is defending and do the job. Because Trump is going to have you jump around both sides of the fence. You need a guy who can sell you either pitch. Without getting heated. EVER. Once the Press Corp knows they have you rattled they are gonna make you slip up. Need a guy who is sharp enough to make you feel foolish about the question or why it was asked.
Doing away with the Press Corp would be spun as badly as Trump himself boarding up an abortion clinics or Sessions taking the battering ram into the door of a legal pot dispensary.
