You were the one that said inflation was down to try and prove your point. So you admit you were being dishonest. This is simple math.

2023 budget was $3B. After 3% average inflation in 2024…the cost to provide the exact same services in 2024 would be an extra $90M or $3.09B.

But the 2024 budget was cut to $2.9B. So you have to basically cut $190M worth of services once you account for inflation plus budget cuts.

My inflation reference was one that shows that simply stating something doesn't make it true... such as "inflation is down". If the statement was true Fox News would not have gotten community noted.

On another note if your argument is "they need more money to provide the exact same services" then you should be for increasing the gov budget every year correct?

If the budget increases each year were for necessary services and to keep up with inflation rates, then yes.

But for needless wars, green policies, and govt. waste, then no. You understand that this spending is what causes inflation, right?

Protecting communities from fire is one of the basic duties of governments. That California’s state and local government failed at such a fundamental duty exposes the utter fiction that underpins the “social contract” model of government.

What recourse do California citizens have to address this abysmal failure by the state? Petition the state to correct it’s own failures: it’s turtles all the way down.

I understand that is one of the factors.

How do you know that the already 3 Billion spent on the "wildfire program" wasn't waste?

Like potentially invading Mexico and Panama?

Our massive inflation came from govt spending, period. The worst of it came in 2020, which jump started massive inflation.

Wait, you were being serious? I assumed this was sarcasm. The community note points out he did reduce the budget by $101 million last year. Then they reference some obscure 9 year period where the budget increased. The original claim was not misinformation, they are just pulling in other data points to “add context” ie obfuscate.

That is the crazy thing about government funding. One year you might show a huge increase for a capital project or disaster reimbursement, the next year you may show a decrease to regular funding and everyone is complaining it was cut. Or you increase the budget by 2 percent instead of the 5 percent that was estimated the year before and not taking inflation into account.

It almost reminds me of the school lunch program back in the 1990’s, republicans wanted to decentralize it from the federal government and still fund it higher than what the democrats wanted. The democrats had kids write letters to ask Congress not to decentralize the school lunch program.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does this have to do with the fire department fighting fires and having the water and resources to do so?

Nothing. It’s just correcting the fake news that Gavin Newsome cut the fire budget. The community note said that he cut it $100 million after raising it $1.7 billion.

$3B is a lot of money, but California is the third-largest State in the Union with far and away the largest population, and they're among the most drought and natural disaster plagued regions in the lower 48.

New Orleans couldn't have done a whole lot to prevent Katrina from breaching the levees. Eastern TN and Western NC could do literally nothing to prevent the biblical flooding wrought by Helene. But these fires in CA could 100% have been mitigated if time, money and resources had been allocated towards preventive measures such as controlled burns, underbrush/deadfall removal and just making sure the fricking emergency water reservoirs actually had water in them.

This is 100% the fault of the wasteful and ineffectual leadership of California for decades. No one else, not even nature.

Right.

Further:
1. What is budget like today using 2014 dollars;
2. What did any increase in budget, assuming there was an increase in constant dollars, went to actual shite that prevents or fights wildfires vs stuff like DEI and gay outreach, etc.

Correct - I already corrected this idiot earlier - 2014-2023 has nothing to do with him cutting $101 million recently. And what hasn’t he increased from 2014-2023 with the price of things. LOL
