The 2024-25 California state budget, which Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law in June 2024, slashed funding for wildfire and forest resilience by $101 million as part of a series of cutbacks according to an analysis by the state's Legislative Analyst's Office.
quote:
the CAL FIRE budget had doubled from $2 billion in 2018-19 to $3.8 billion in 2024-25, whilst the department's personnel went from 5,829 to 10,741 over the same period.
The way they framed the cutback is the way they frame the inflation argument. It's dishonest.
Now we can all agree that the funds have been mismanaged. However many on the board fell for the 100 million clickbait title.
The funding was not the issue. It's the mismanagement.

Just do like the Dems do and cry it was a cut if the increase was only 50 mil instead of 100 mil

They cut the fricking funding. Why the frick was the funding any less than it had been at a point in the past? If it was, it was CUT.

let me guess you went to little rock public schools were only 26% of students can read at grade level and only 23% can perform math at grade level.
trying to equate 101 million dollar single year budget cut as an actual increase in the budget between 2014 to 2024 5 years in which newsome was not even governor are you some kind of a retard. thank god i went to little rock catholic high school for boys at least we learned math.

Apparently you didn't
First off your numbers are incorrect or you just didn't bother to read. I'm glad I can.

The 100 million was cut from the increase. And don't try to use some BS line that prices went up 1.8 billion to negate the increase.
If they couldn't stop it with almost 4 billion 100 mill wasn't going to put them over the top. It's all mismanagement not underfunding.

Why only go back to 2018? Why not go back to 1918 and *REALLY SHOW US* how much the budget has actually increased over time?

It was still cut - inflation has caused lots of shite to shoot thru the roof - a cut is a cut no matter how you try to slice it.
Posted on 1/11/25 at 9:56 pm to boogiewoogie1978
So what did they do with the extra $1.8 billion they got in 5 years? Holy cow. Mismanagement is even worse.
The $100 million is a drop in the bucket. I actually think what we see with an almost doubling of the budget in 5 years is even more of a scandal.

Framing it that way you could also say that "the Biden admin had the greatest job growth in history".
Like I said. It's dishonest.

When did this happen?
I’m not an authority; I was basing it on the community note, and I said so in the post you responded to. According to that note the years before - most of it under Newsome - the fire budget was raised $1.7 billion. Then they cut it $0.1 billion. If this is true there was a radical increase in the fire fighting budget under Gavin Newsome,
This doesn’t absolve Newsome from blame for this event, but it debunks fake news that he cut that budget.

ahhhh, I got you now. Yes, he cut the funding by 101M, but that isn't the real issue. The real issue is they mismanaged the budget, so cutting the $101M for fighting fires, it therefore excused.
Holy Crap. We all realize that California is a woke disaster, but the fact remains, they cut the budget by $101M. That isn't clickbait, that is factual.

That’s not even the same context - regardless of what happened it has been a huge frick up.
