16 is the legal age in some states, including alabama
I see age of consents posted a lot. I was under the impression that a lot of states have laws beyond that measuring separation in age with the goal being not to prosecute 18-19 year olds sleeping with sophomores but not to make it legal for 25 year olds to do so.
I'll admit I don't know the answer to that and I'm a bit afraid to start googling.

Dude willingly was talking sex with a 13yr old and tried to meet up with her. Wtf. Like that freaking dude didn’t know what he was doing was wrong. Piss off.

Honestly, reading the conversations in many of these stings, the cop is the one pushing the convo. Like, get pedos off the street, but it's the same thing with the FBI catching a "terrorist" who was totally going to blow up a building. With the supplies, plans, means, and motive all supplied by the FBI.
A lot of these cases seem to mostly just ensnare someone who was pretty harmless but gullible.

And I think the terrorist-pedophile example is a good one.
Both are some of the worst and most destructive elements of society, and as a society/culture we're comfortable pushing the boundaries of what's legal to eliminate these threats. It's a dangerous and close call, admittedly, and I can't say my libertarian streak is completely comfortable with it. But I get it.
I'm a little less enthused about doing it for creepers who probably aren't what I'd consider pedophiles. I think pedophiles are ticking time bombs. Plenty of guys roped into this type of sting might otherwise go through life without crossing the line, however.

Some states do that. Alabama straight up has 16
