This dude makes Trump look composed.

Amid an ongoing power struggle between state Republicans and New Orleans Democrats, Gov. Jeff Landry said New Orleans is no longer as important to Louisiana’s economic success as it has been in the past.
“Used to be, the saying was, ‘Where goes New Orleans, where goes the state.’ Let me tell you what happened today. That has changed, ” Landry said Monday after a press conference announcing the expansion of an enormous Meta data center project in northeast Louisiana.
“Where goes Louisiana will determine the fate of New Orleans, okay?” the GOP governor said.
Landry’s remarks about New Orleans – the largest Democratic stronghold in Republican Louisiana – come after almost two weeks of feuding between the city’s leaders, the governor and Republican Attorney General Liz Murrill, Landry’s closest political ally.
A New Orleans grand jury indicted Murrill shortly before the July 4 holiday over allegations of malfeasance in office and intimidation of New Orleans elected officials.
Since the charges were handed down, the Louisiana Supreme Court has recalled an arrest warrant issued for Murrill. Landry has also made several statements criticizing New Orleans and helped block state approval of a loan the city was planning to take out.
“New Orleans thinks they’re so special …” Landry said Monday. “That parish is going to operate exactly like the rest of this state, and the people of this state want that.”
New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno responded to Landry’s comments by describing New Orleans as Louisiana’s “largest economic engine” that generates tax dollars for communities across the state.
“The focus should always be to strive for every city, every town, and every parish to reach their fullest potential. We are all Louisiana after all,” she said in a written statement Monday.
Moreno, a Democrat, asked to meet one-on-one with Landry, but the governor has shunned the mayor so far. On Monday, he said he would only meet with Moreno once “she understands that they have to get their fiscal house in order.”
Moreno responded in her written statement by saying: “We’re stronger together. My door remains open.”
quote:
The Louisiana Department of Revenue tax collection report for the 2024-2025 state fiscal year, the latest data available, shows the New Orleans region was still the powerhouse generator of tax revenue that year.
The New Orleans suburb of Jefferson Parish and Orleans itself were two of the three parishes with the highest gross state sales and income taxes that cycle. The third was East Baton Rouge.
Orleans is also still the third largest parish in terms of population, behind Jefferson and East Baton Rouge.

Completely reasonable.

I wouldn't call basically declaring war on the parish that supplies a significant amount of tax revenue for the state "reasonable."

How did last weeks rain go for you? Did Consuela have to build a raft to go MAKE groceries? (Sorry, I know how anal you fricking yats are about your insane sayings)
If only New Orleans were good with their money and could fix those dang water pumps.
Ps. Ever figure out who killed Sandra bland and Trayvon? Absolutely insane you STILL can’t be honest.

New Orleans is a big blue dot in a sea of red and Landry is hardcore partisan. He doesn’t get much votes from Orleans so he isn’t concerned. He’d rather slam Orleans to make him look better to his supporters.
He thinks because Meta is building the data center, New Orleans’ impact on the state is diminished.
Why does it have to be one or the other? The state can benefit from both the data center AND a flourishing New Orleans.
It’s short sighted and petty but he’s short and petty so it makes sense.
Shame on Landry.

New Orleans does not control the state, and they shouldn't.
ETA: They have no power.

Right. We should be cheering on all parts of the state. Antagonizing New Orleans (or any other city/region) serves no practical purpose.

Still refusing to answer?
Being able to admit when you are wrong is a requirement to be a decent human being.
Why are you a shite human being? Don’t you want to have others recognize you as an honest person? Don’t you want people to be able to take what you say as truth and an honest attempt at discourse?
How can one sit here and act like you sit on a crystal throne of perfection while being completely and totally unwilling to simply say “ya know, I was wrong. I admit it”?

Two things can be true: New Orleans is a shell of its former self, and Landry should be trying to work with Moreno to fix it.
The fighting won’t help anything.

It used to be that New Orleans was the economic and population center of the state. The population has been dropping fairly consistently since the 1970s and the economic output struggled to get back to pre-Katrina levels. Once it achieved that (mid-2010s), COVID came along and erased almost all of those gains.
Even if it were still rolling strong, it would not give the city primacy over the state and nothing would give the city any sort of legitimacy with what they tried with the Liz Murrell arrest warrant.
But, please feel free to explain how Landry was factually wrong.

Landry is part of the good ole boy mafia. You either get with him or he works to destroy you.
He believes that if he trashed New Orleans publically, it benefits him politically and if he works with New Orleans, it hurts him politically.
One thing I know about politicians like him. His ego is very fragile. If Moreno doesnt kiss his arse publically, he won’t do squat to help her/nola and if she tries to embarrass him, he’s going to try to hurt her/nola.

Yes, some is FINALLY letting that shothole government know that they don't operate independently and on their own terms. frick that. We've let it go on far too long.
We gave em some rope, and somehow they thought they were a cowboy.
Everything therr is failing, and that includes leadership that operated unchecked.
Thank God for Landry. New Orleans has to change their complete fabric makeup, to survive and thrive

Why not? There are governors that openly declare war on the people that supplies a significant amount of tax revenue to their states. And the hard lesson there is, people can actually move.

Antagonizing New Orleans
If making Orleans parish and the city of New Orleans follow the same rules as all other parishes and municipalities in the state is "antagonizing New Orleans" then that proves Landry's assessment that "New Orleans thinks they're so special" (that they don't need to follow the same laws and rules as everyone else in the state).

And how has the state NOT been trying to fix NOLA?
It’s crystal clear based on history that NOLA can’t/won’t fix itself.

New Orleans isn't the city it used to be. With bad mayors crime is rampant and the people in charge evidenced by the Interviews done after the terrorist attack on Bourbon St. that they continue and have for awhile have elected morons.
It was embarrassing as a person from Louisiana to watch the incompetence of the leadership trying to explain why they didn't have the barriers controlling what streets you couldn't turn on to.
The City has major events all the time and didn't put out controls to keep people safe.
New Orleans wont even exist as it is below sea level and another few big hurricanes will finish the job.
I love New Orleans and have been their so many times and still enjoy going.
But i am much more carefull now and dont feel as safe.
