Frankly I have no idea what that core will do. The best substantive way to pick up that element is probably for DeSantis to emasculate Trump in a public way. I don't know that that's likely, but that's the type of thing these folks would typically respond to.
How would they handle seeing their idol embarrassed? No idea.
Would Trump endorsing DeSantis carry most of them? It would carry a good number, but if Trump loses that tether might be cut. It's unclear what Trump's future would be and I think a lot of his most hardcore people would be lost in the political wilderness. There aren't a lot of substantive/ideological roots there.
