God some of you rage monsters need to chill the frick out. I understand what it meant.
But also, you can’t pretend that wages have magically kept up with inflation for the last 4-5 years.
That’s everyone’s point.

Sounds like we need to move to a stuffing based economy.

Were not families larger back then?

Next month they will adjust the data and slide the decimal point one space to the right. Oopsie.

That's interesting how you can talk out of your a$$ and your mouth just a few posts apart. That's some talent!

The butter costs $7. So you can get the rest of the 10-person feast for $51?

Well if you are eating what you are full of then that could explain why your brain doesn’t work well

Well I guess I’m voting for Biden then

I’ll go with say the wage increases from 2019 forward to the inflation increase from 2019 forward. Real wages have not come close to real inflation, and I’m not talking about the numbers released monthly or YOY. Those bs numbers don’t include enough to make for accurate data but rather a best way to tamper down

Were not families larger back then?
Household size 1960: 3.3
Household size 2023: 2.51
Difference: 24%
Raise current 11% spent by 24%: 13.64%
It's still a lot lower.
Taking it even further, here's per capita spending on food expressed in year 2000 dollars:
quote:
1960 (in 2000 dollars): ~$5818
2023 (in 2000 dollars): ~$4317

So NBC is inadvertently telling us that Kamala's rhetoric about the need to go after companies for price gouging was bullshite and higher cost at the grocery stores are in fact due to their inflationary polices while the companies providing the goods are operating at lower margins.

NBC News claims that the cost for Thanksgiving dinner is at a 40-year low and that you can feed a family of 10 for $58 total, or $5.80 per person.
That's some serious gaslighting right there...
Is that hotdogs and chili?

The people who watch that shite probably don't even look at the total cost when they shop. There's a significant amount of older suburbanites that while aren't rich they have enough of a retirement where money isn't a problem. This must be their viewership populace

If you believe those bs numbers vs real inflation across the grocery spectrum then you either aren’t buying the items or you’re just oblivious about. There is very little that hasn’t gone up 30% or more. It’s so rough that most meat in large markets have replaced their suppliers with lower quality meat, just to attempt to keep a lid on it. Packaging has also changed with items on the shelves. A report came out earlier this year suggesting that it would reduce the families operating budgets that housing (rents) and car payments delinquencies would increase by years end. Well guess what it has spiked yo 2008 levels.

Just the oil to fry the turkey is more than $50
Posted on 11/26/24 at 5:02 pm to jaytothen
My family spent $200 all in for 8. Includes turkey, sides, desserts, and wine.
$58 my arse.
Our turkey was $40 alone.
