Russia will not attack a NATO country unless NATO attacks Russia

NATO is getting dangerously close to attacking Russia, even though they're already doing it via proxy.

Western powers have perceived Russia as a boogeyman since at least the 16th century.

It's always been in the interest of governments to "protect" its citizens from foreign threats, real or otherwise.

In the present case, Western propagandists spent months mocking the incompetent and outdated Russian army, then harrowing tales of their war crimes, and now their planned invasion of Poland.
