I am quoting myself from earlier- when I asked someone what he meant by saying “unifying NATO” was something that should scare Putin.

I got no answer - just a downvote.

So I ask everyone -

“Uniting NATO”

I keep hearing this. What does this mean- precisely? Biden said it the other day.

United into what? Into saying Russia is bad in unison? Over and over again?

It’s just a platitude. One of many it appears that people are now repeating mindlessly in rationalization for involving ourselves in this mess.

I don’t want any Americans to die over a platitude. It’s bad enough that millions of Americans are currently suffering over multiple platitudes.

If NATO thinks allowing US or any other foreign forces to move in with the Ukraine then they should expect the same response Kennedy gave to Russia for Cuba.

My all time favorites are from Bill Clinton. 'Al Gore has been the greatest Vice-President in American history.'
'Hillary is the most qualified presidential candidate in American history.'

It is time that we go back to the Washington Doctrine in foreign policy:

quote:

the US should consider its external military alliances to be temporary arrangements of convenience and should freely abandon or reverse them, as indicated by the national interest.

Russias actions have definitely caused a reaction from NATO countries… time will tell if that means “united” or not. Central and Eastern European nations will most certainly increase military spending as a result.

American soldiers should not be defending what European soldiers will not defend.

The reaction already isn’t the same reaction.

Compare US with Germany
Compare UK to Turkey

I think bureaucrats who work at NATO feel relevant again. And that’s all it means.

NATO doesn’t have ideals or citizens. It was a treaty formed to fight an enemy that doesn’t exist anymore.

It never worked. Europeans wouldn't do their part. They just picked up the phone and called DC and begged for help.

They’re trying the same thing they always do… mass psychosis so we’ll get behind WW3. Just like we did with Covid and BLM

Is NATO some kind of borg collective? If so, I want no part of it.

A 'unified NATO' is as effective as a # campaign on twitter.

Change my mind.

There is an idea in the United States, that NATO is some truly multilateral institution. When in fact it is led and exists primarily for the United States. Although it could be argued that the British secretly drive the train.

So "NATO is more united than ever" means that the member countries of NATO are more aggregable to US policies.

So countries that have been pushing more of their own unilateral policies, especially Turkey, France, and Germany in the past year are more in line with US policies.

I guess what I’m trying to get as is you can’t have it both ways… either NATO is a legit threat to Russia and they’re justified in invading Ukraine… or Russia had nothing to worry about bc NATO is a fractured ineffective organization with no clear leadership or objective.
