There is nothing metaphorical when Iran says it.

They want you and your family dead or converted.

HERE YOU GO:

Iran has been linked to the deaths of Americans through direct actions, proxy groups, and support for terrorism since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Below is a detailed list of the ways Iran has been responsible.

1. 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis
Incident: On November 4, 1979, Iranian students, supported by the newly established Islamic Republic, stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 66 Americans hostage. 52 were held for 444 days.

2. 1983 Beirut Bombings
Incident: On October 23, 1983, a truck bomb struck the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 241 American servicemen. A simultaneous attack hit French barracks, killing 58 French troops.
American Deaths: 241 U.S. Marines, sailors, and soldiers.
Iran’s Role: U.S. intelligence and court rulings attribute the attack to Hezbollah, a Shia militant group founded with Iranian support in 1982. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) provided training, funding, and logistical support through its Quds Force. A 2003 U.S. federal court ruling held Iran liable, citing evidence of IRGC involvement.

3. 1983 U.S. Embassy Bombing in Beirut
Incident: On April 18, 1983, a suicide bomber attacked the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, killing 63 people, including 17 Americans.
American Deaths: 17 U.S. diplomats, CIA personnel, and military staff.

4. 1984 U.S. Embassy Annex Bombing in Beirut
Incident: On September 20, 1984, a car bomb targeted the U.S. Embassy annex in East Beirut, killing 24 people, including 2 Americans.
American Deaths: 2 U.S. military personnel.
Iran’s Role: Again, Hezbollah, with Iranian backing, is blamed. The attack followed the same pattern of suicide bombings linked to IRGC support.

5. 1985–1990 Hostage Crisis in Lebanon
Incident: Hezbollah, with Iranian backing, kidnapped dozens of Westerners in Lebanon, including several Americans. Notable cases include CIA station chief William Buckley (killed in 1985) and Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins (killed in 1988).
American Deaths: At least 2 confirmed deaths (Buckley and Higgins), though others died in captivity or due to related stress.
Iran’s Role: Iran’s IRGC orchestrated the kidnappings through Hezbollah to pressure the U.S. and secure concessions, such as arms sales (Iran-Contra affair). Buckley’s torture and death were directly linked to IRGC interrogators.

6. 1996 Khobar Towers Bombing in Saudi Arabia
Incident: On June 25, 1996, a truck bomb detonated at the Khobar Towers housing complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 19 U.S. Air Force personnel and injuring 498.
American Deaths: 19 U.S. servicemen.
7. 2003–2011 Iraq War: Iranian-Backed Militias
Incident: During the U.S. occupation of Iraq, Iranian-backed Shia militias, such as Kata’ib Hezbollah, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, and the Mahdi Army, attacked U.S. forces using roadside bombs, rockets, and ambushes.
American Deaths: The Pentagon estimates Iran was responsible for at least 608 U.S. troop deaths (17% of total U.S. casualties in Iraq from 2003–2011). This includes deaths from explosively formed penetrators (EFPs), advanced IEDs supplied by Iran.

8. 2007 Karbala Attack
Incident: On January 20, 2007, Iranian-backed militants, posing as U.S. security contractors, attacked a U.S. military outpost in Karbala, Iraq, killing 5 American soldiers.
American Deaths: 5 U.S. soldiers.
Iran’s Role: U.S. intelligence linked the attack to the IRGC-Quds Force, specifically operative Abdulreza Shahlai. The attackers were trained in Iran and used sophisticated tactics.
Evidence: U.S. military reports and interrogations of captured militants.

9. Afghanistan (2001–2021): Support for Insurgents
Incident: Iran provided limited support to Taliban and other anti-U.S. insurgents in Afghanistan, including weapons, training, and safe havens.
American Deaths: No precise number is available, but U.S. intelligence estimates Iran’s actions contributed to dozens of U.S. deaths. The 2015 JCPA report claims Iran’s proxies caused “well over a thousand” American deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan combined, though Afghanistan’s share is smaller.
Iran’s Role: The IRGC-Quds Force supplied EFPs and rockets to Taliban factions, despite ideological differences, to counter U.S. presence. Iran also sheltered al-Qaeda operatives post-9/11, indirectly aiding anti-U.S. activities.

10. USS Cole Bombing (2000)
Incident: On October 12, 2000, al-Qaeda bombed the USS Cole in Yemen, killing 17 U.S. sailors.
American Deaths: 17 U.S. Navy personnel.
Iran’s Role: One X post claims Iran was responsible, citing Rep. Don Bacon. However, no credible evidence links Iran directly to the attack. Al-Qaeda, a Sunni group, claimed responsibility, and U.S. investigations focused on Osama bin Laden’s network.

11. Support for Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ)
Incident: Iran has provided funding, weapons, and training to Hamas and PIJ, which have conducted attacks against Israel, occasionally killing Americans. The October 7, 2023, Hamas attack killed 44 Americans.
American Deaths: At least 44 Americans in 2023, plus smaller numbers in prior attacks (e.g., 3 Americans in a 2015 Jerusalem stabbing).
Iran’s Role: Iran’s IRGC supplies rockets, drones, and financial aid to Hamas and PIJ. U.S. intelligence confirmed Iran’s support for Hamas’s 2023 attack, though direct operational control is unclear.

12. Houthi Attacks in Yemen (2015–Present)
Incident: Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have attacked U.S. naval assets and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, though no American deaths are confirmed.
American Deaths: None directly, but U.S. personnel have been targeted.
Iran’s Role: The IRGC provides the Houthis with missiles, drones, and training. A 2015 JCPA report notes Iran’s weapons deliveries fuel regional insurgencies. X posts claim Iran “closed off shipping lanes” via Houthis.

13. 2020 Ukrainian Passenger Jet Downing
Incident: On January 8, 2020, Iran’s IRGC shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, killing all 176 aboard, including 4 Americans (per U.S. State Department).
American Deaths: 4 U.S. citizens.
Iran’s Role: The IRGC admitted responsibility, claiming it mistook the plane for a U.S. missile during heightened tensions after Soleimani’s killing. Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, IRGC aerospace chief, took responsibility.

14. 2024 Attack on U.S. Base in Jordan
Incident: On January 28, 2024, a drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan killed 3 American soldiers and injured 40.
American Deaths: 3 U.S. servicemen.
Iran’s Role: The attack was attributed to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an Iranian-backed militia coalition. President Biden explicitly blamed Iran, citing its supply of drones and training.

Total Estimated American Deaths
Direct and Proxy Attacks: Approximately 1,000–1,500 U.S. deaths, including:
608 in Iraq (Pentagon estimate, 2003–2011).
241 in Beirut barracks (1983).
17 in Beirut embassy (1983).
19 in Khobar Towers (1996).
44 in Hamas’s 2023 attack.
3 in Jordan (2024).
Smaller numbers in Lebanon hostage crisis, Afghanistan, and other incidents.
Civilian Deaths: At least 4 in Flight 752, plus others in terrorist attacks (e.g., Hamas/PIJ).

Because N Korea and Pakistan already have them, so we can't really stop them from developing one. However we can stop Iran developing one because they don't already have them.

How is this even a question?

Sounds like man of y'all have been studying Democrats anti gun rhetoric.

They use the same reasoning to justify that guns are dangerous.

Because they'd use them- or even more likely give them to someone who would.

You trust a group of guys who view America as "The Great Satan"? No thanks.

Their stated goal is to set the region on fire. That's one thing they've said that I believe.

Put me down for Iran not having their finger on the pulse of nuclear war.

And you can use a single shot 22 without killing a bunch of people in short time.

You see how easy it is when you hit that slippery slope? This is the same argument Progs use to justify taking your black scary guns

Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis are heavily funded by Iran. Which similar groups outside the Indian subcontinent are funded by Pakistan?

The leader of NK is an atheist who doesn't want to die. The leader of Pakistan knows he can't destroy all of India. But India's nukes can destroy all of Pakistan.
The leader of Iran is happy to die if he destroyed Israel because he's going straight to heaven and have sex with dozens of virgins.

It's state run terrorism and yet they've never nuked anybody. No doubt most of the terrorism is aimed at India but they have connections to basically every terrorist group in the middle east.

Pakistan has been known to fund the taliban, isis, al qaeda etc. They've been invovled at some point with all the major players. Are they now? I don't know but they were funding and harboring these terrorist cells while they had a nuke. They still haven't nuked me yet
