We are so boned. The cost of everything is going up at least 25%.

Were you this outraged when we were spewing money into the economy through the green new deal?

Hope they pass

This is materially and factually incorrect.

A national retail sales tax would absolutely hit younger people harder. At 51, with my two oldest kids out on their own, I consume FAR less than I did in my 20's and 30's. At that time I was buying furniture, appliances, kitchen and bathroom stuff, kids' clothes, dance lessons, etc. Now that it's just me and my youngest, I hardly buy anything other than food and toiletries. Everything is paid-off but the house. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to do away with the income tax and go to a national sales tax because it would save me a shitload of money, but I'd be saving that money at the expense of young families just trying to get started in life.

Back when tariffs funded the government, there was no such thing as government cheese.

If you went to the website I linked, which is the largest advocacy group in the nation to promote the NRST, you'd learn that families at/below the poverty line are totally insulated from the effects of the sales tax on the cost of essential goods.

This is your one freebie. The rest is up to you.

Do better and go learn something.

Most middle class peoples effective tax rate is around 15% anyway, counting all the deductions and credits.
This of course, doesn't include FICA or state income tax

No income tax, consumption tax only. Nothing more fair than that. The more you have, the more you can consume, the more tax you pay.

Wouldn't they just charge us 23% on all taxes good instead of the standard 9 now?

They would, but you're the overlooking the fact that 21-23% of current retail goods prices are embedded corporate income taxes that are baked in and ultimately paid by the consumer.

No income tax means no corporate income tax, so that component is driven out of the retail price via market forces responding to the new environment.

Any company who would attempt to keep their prices the same to take advantage of the new higher margins would be willfully placing themselves at a competitive disadvantage since their cost of manufacturing is still the same.

You’re definitly right that we’re in for some shite once the population starts to decrease

but you’re going to crush the lower classes taxing consumption.

what is the free market solution to a shrinking population? This isn’t rhetorical, it’s just something I don't know and would like to hear.

15% tariff on all international trade,

Is this on both in and out? I think creating a flat tax for imports isn't good as we'd need to be able to use it like Trump is doing so.

Yes. I prefer this to a national sales tax. Consumption is just to fickle and harder to deal with. States that don't collect taxes on Internet sales can benefit them.

I don't like that there are people "under the poverty" line not paying taxes. At 5%, especially if the get govt assistance. People need to pay their way.

Short and Long term cap gains taxes should be included under the 15% too.

The easy "postcard" Trump has talked about would be a great start. Though still needs an envelope to avoid personal data being stolen.
