I’m in my late 50’s and don’t believe anything from either side anymore. Both Right and Left are being manipulated for a greater nefarious agenda. I can’t imagine being in my 80’s or 90’s and, with having witnessed so much bullshite and frickery, believing anything that comes out of a politician or media talking head’s mouth. I think GenXers in general were born cynical. I know that I was.

Trying real hard to put their political BS aside and just continue to love them but it’s getting harder and harder. I love them dearly and they were awesome parents but they are becoming such radical leftist that I am struggling. They listen to Maddow nightly.

I steer clear of political discussions when I am with them but they always eventually go there. I keep a neutral tone but it takes all that I can to just keep my mouth shut.

They are both in their 90s so I know they are not long for this world and I am thankful they are still with me. So I try not to rock the boat.

Just venting here so thanks for allowing me to rant.

I feel you. My parents are evangelicals - total lunatics.

Old people watch too much news and it affects their perception of reality. And that happens for old people on both sides depending on what news channel they watch. It’s sad really.

I’m seeing this with my mother, but on the right though. She is 73 and has become much more conspiratorial than I would have ever imagined. She is a major consumer of Fox.

Many times I actually don’t disagree with her, but during a couple of recent visits she has brought up the “fact” that my son is autistic “all because of one shot.” When I tried to get clarification about what she was talking about she began going down the vaccinations causing autism rabbit hole.

I quickly and respectfully shut her down giving room for the possibility in that the amount of shots babies get at each particular interval and the amount of mercury in the shots COULD be related, but that it has not been proven. Of course she brought up RFKJ and his theories. My agreement with her that I hoped he could get to the bottom of the matter conclusively seemed to placate her.

She tried to bring it up again on a subsequent visit, but I did not engage at all.

She is well educated and I’m not sure when it began, but I definitely see the change.

I think many of those old timers were democrat due to President Herbert Hoover (R) leading them into the depression. Many could not get over that. FDR, and his socialistic policies, was their savior.

I wonder how he felt about Herbert Hoover.

FDR's policies extended the depression by 7 years per UCLA economists.

i can't say for sure why your idiot kid autism either but i wouldn't blame your mother for it. poor liberals that no kangz was going to work and we would be impeaching trump today but that guy tampon tim appointed ruined it! for the record most people i know in their 90's don't do much of anything, so i'm inclined not to believe that his parents are in their 90's and didn't attend te no kangz rally and refer you to rule number 1 people will lie!

Not this old lady . . everything but everything is open to skeptism esp. considering today's biased news. Can't even read a book today w/o wondering about its objectivity.

Witnessed 3 lone souls today near the fairgrounds in Woodstock, CT (white I might add). I've never seen protesters anywhere in Windham County so it caught me by surprise. For those unfamiliar with this neck of the woods, no one in Woodstock is in need of "want" nor are their constitutional "rights" impinged upon in any way.

Well, all I have left is 87 years old mom and a sister 5 hours away.

Mom still watches Fox News 24/7 except lately with sister traveling a lot she started mixing in some Weather Channel fear porn. Mom was actually adamant that several cabinet members were great leaders until I pointed out, leaders get stuff done not just talk the part.

Good politicians project their bs talk into an impression of leadership but never accomplish anything.

Leaders do, while politicians bloviate.

Her feathers were in a kerfuffle.

Don't stoop to the level of a progressive and abandon a family member because they don't vote the way you think they should.

Yeah it sucks, but it is family. Don't go the cult route like millions of progressives do and worst of all, encourage other progressives to do.

Yeah, I struggle to understand these situations..seems either due to
1) lack of adult involvement/attention or 2) her circle of friends (see 1)

Somehow after a lifetime of voting democrat

My late 70’s father is on the Trump train.

The violent Democrat riots and antifa combined with drag shows and gender surgery being forced on kids

Pushed him to the good guys

Conservatives need to shine the light on the attack on children harder
