Mainer accents are the worst. It's barely English.

Don't get me wrong - the place looks amazing, but ugh the people.

Growing up in Louisiana and leaving as a young adult, I couldn’t make it a week in that heat and humidity. I laugh my arse off anytime someone says something about how bad the humidity is in ST Louis.

My dad is 63, a hardline Libertarian, and recently bought property in Maine to get away from these brutal summers. Try telling him it’s not hotter than when he grew up.

Get outside Portland and the coastal areas, and you’ll find that many of the people are like southerners. A lot of baws up there.

Nah. I'm willing to bet that OP knows his mom well enough to know that her deliberate use of language like "overwhelming, life-threatening, record-breaking heat" was a passive aggressive political jab.

I told her it is July, and it is just as hot now as when I was a kid. Actually, it feels cooler now because the hole in the ozone layer isn't a problem now.

Lol. No.

And you somehow think you're winning this arrangement by staying in Louisiana?

She figured it out. Why haven't you? The only reason I'm forced to stay here is because of family. If they up and moved to Maine, then what the frick are you still doing here?

But your travels to Maine will cause pollution which will cause next summer to be even hotter.

This can be said about what ever side you have chosen. I have no side, I hate them all.

Visited my folks around 2018, after my dad went to bed, my mom says “what do you think about Trump?”. So I say “whada you think?”. She says “I think he’s colluding with the Russians”

Older people who don't get any news other than broadcast news/CNN in 2018? I can forgive that. The media was still in their full-court press on trying to create that scandal out of thin air (Mueller's report wasn't even out then).

If they still feel that way now? Yeesh. If you haven't been able to show them the proof of how and why it all happened (ie: they refuse to acknowledge it)... double yeesh.

Thankfully my mother's the exact opposite, ready and willing to believe anything which paints anyone on the Left in a bad light. She even freely admits that she doesn't care if what she believes is wrong as long as it fits her political leanings.

My mother and I disagree on a lot of things. I still treat her with more respect than you treat yours. It's your mom, don't be such a dick. She'll be dead before you know it.

He should invite her down. Like normal respectful families. Mutual respect. Try it.

My mom is 77, and mows about 3 acres weekly. I'm hoping to get her to move in with my wife and I, so she can take a break and enjoy the time she has left.
