Because we’ve imported everyone from Wernher von Braun and Unit 731 to Musk himself.

An ascendant China will catch us on population and statistical probability alone if we don’t continue to offer the best and brightest a better reason to do it here rather than there.

China will never catch us due to their government. Maybe if they completely ditch their entire historical culture they have a chance. Otherwise you're a retard if you actually believe that.

I don't disagree with this in theory but in practice the H1B program (and others) is being used to sideline the best that are already here and suppress wages.

The Washington Post had an article about this some months ago.

quote:

Hiring in professional and business services — which includes jobs in tech, consulting, finance and media that are popular among new grads — has fallen 12 percent, according to federal data … Today’s recent graduates ages 22 to 27 have a higher unemployment rate — 4.7 percent, as of March — than the overall population, according to an analysis by the New York Fed.

as American and European pilots are offered gobs of money to train them.

Are you really willing to take that chance? And the alternative being what? We turn away the best computer scientist and quantum computing brains because of where they were born?

This debate needs to be held in terms of the bell curve. The top 10% or so need to be here regardless. The next 30% or so can be argued should be prioritized towards Americans and appropriate wages. The remainder can be offshored to Delhi or Delcambre for all intents and purposes.

That’s what I don’t understand. Much of this board is ripping the H1B guys as kind of dumb or unqualified grunts. Well, the work must not involve all that much skill if they can do it.

That makes some sense.

I'm fine with the O-1 visa program being used properly. That is where the .01% Musk backtracked to belongs.

H1-B is just abused to death however which is lowering tech wages and opportunity for Americans.

Because they suppress American wages and take jobs from hardworking Americans.

I don't like seeing American tech companies gut themselves from the inside by filling themselves up with cheap foreigners.

I'm ripping it as it is taking jobs, and lowering average wages, from middle class Americans.

Much like the illegals are doing to lower class Americans.

The numbers show foreign born employment up while American is down.

I haven't seen those after the numerous revisions, but I would bet it looks even worse.

Yes. Get the quantum computing and nuclear fusion guys here regardless of where they were born.

Kinda invalidated your own premise here.

If they're incapable as you suggested, they will self-own their own punishment. Honestly, it sounds you're scared that won't happen. If you're scared, say you're scared.

But the % of white people in the country is more important than actually winning to some of these people

Best post itt

There are a couple posters in this thread on the first two pages that would literally do anything to get Trump to fail.

Look we can all argue this is not a perfect program but what we also have to confront is that the American worker is not what they used to be. Elon and Vivek are correct that the current American workforce are not as hard working as they used to be and are less intelligent. You have a large portion of the American workforce that are outright refusing to go back to work and feel entitled to work from home. Blame American colleges for essentially selling degrees by promoting dei over hard work and promoting woke ideology. I understand people 35 and older may see things differently they don’t completely fall into this ideology because they were raised differently but arguing the American workforce is as hardworking and productive as it has always been is just silly. America has a problem and sticking our head in the sand and acting like it isn’t there won’t help anyone.

China, nor India for that matter, have ever innovated on anything. China is good for low cost manufacturing, not much else.

India is good for call centers. Good meaning cheap. They aren't worth a damn.
