One thing these attacks have made me wonder—do we not have any anti-air systems at these bases?
The whole ordeal is frankly embarrassing for whatever air defense tech/equipment we do have over there.

Which is embarrassing. Especially if there’s a patriot battery at any of the places that have been hit.
It all supports the notion that our air defense capabilities are vastly overstated. The Navy has already admitted that it can’t protect the carriers from missile or drone swarms.

The Phalanx CIWS has enough ammo to fire for like 15 seconds, right? That isn’t going to cut it if there’s more than a couple hypersonic missiles headed in, or a dozen conventional projectiles. And the range is such that missiles will damage the ship anyway via fragmentation, even if the CIWS can track them.
So now we’re just relying on the Aegis ships, who have limited amounts of VLS cells and aren’t effective as much as close range.

Yep. Apparently the new block Burkes are better fitted to handle them, and they’re going to put hypersonic and laser point defense on the zumwalts—but no doubt that our current Navy is designed to fight yesterday’s war
