Google has plans to open an operations center and create 350 new jobs in northwestern Mississippi, the internet giant announced Thursday.

While Google did not share the average salary for the operations center employees, the company did say the Mississippi workers will be employed full time and have access to a range of benefits including medical coverage, three weeks of paid vacation, up to 22 weeks of paid parental leave and other perks like food and a mother's room.

Auto correct likes it that way.

I don’t give a frick if you don’t think there are tons of you people on the west coast of Florida.

I’ve lived there. You can deny they exist if you want to look stupid. Makes me no never mind.

By and large people from the northeast move to the east coast, people from the midwest move to the west coast. Are there some new yorkers on the west side (unfortunately) and midwesterners in the east coast? Of course. It's a big state with a lot of people.

Feel free to link to a quality of life study that has Mississippi where you think it should be. I'd love to check it out.

I'm 57

I have lived in 23 States.

I have earned everywhere from 2.65 an hour to 90 an hour

There is no where I have lived that has a higher Quality of living than North Alabama PERIOD!

Of course my quality of life isn't based on walking or bike riding distance to some event.

It is based on low crime, family safety, what my earnings will buy vs value, etc.

That's awesome. And I'm glad you've found a spot that makes you happy. That doesn't change my original statement which was that by any objective measure or study those three states generally bring up the rear.

that by any objective measure

State income tax,

Sales Tax,

Property tax,

Housing cost,

Low Crime Rate,

Real Wages vs Cost of Living,

Those are 6 objective measures.

Please show me proof that Alabama, MS, and LA actually bring up the rear.

Those aren't quality of life measures. And any of the financial items will ultimately factor into economy rankings, which, as we saw are not great.

Low Crime Rate,

45th in crime and corrections. Congrats? (Ahead of Louisiana, which is 48th though).

There's nothing to change my mind about. I'm going by rankings from a bunch of different sources. I didn't write them.

It sounds like he's very happy in North Alabama, which as I said is awesome for him. That doesn't change any of the other stuff that show those states toward the bottom in education, healthcare, or economy.

If you are a prog, don’t. Our Yankee quota is full even for Yankee-lite. It’s all going to be underwater soon anyway.

Not so.

Cost of living stats show that the 3 states mentioned are all in the top 20.

So as I argued earlier the quality of life crap that you posted is liberal talking points.

Mississippi has shed the crutches. And for the first time, all State offices will be GOP controlled with a GOP supermajority in both the house and senate. We are about to take off.

Louisiana will never change. It's been this way too long and the corruption is ingrained for perpetuity.

I'm not, so we're all good there

And I'm not planning to move there. If I want to go I will just visit brother or dad (who is down there during the winter).

While Alabama and Mississippi are kicking our arse and growing jobs, JBE is building for the future with teacher pay raises and more money for early learning centers.

Of course the little ones will grow up, go to college on TOPS, graduate, and leave the state to take good jobs elsewhere.

But it sounds great and by promising a bright future way down the line all the folks now just expect you to balance the budget and nothing more.
