The implication is:
1) that the cops were trying to entrap a protestor by putting a non-functioning weapon there where it could be picked up by a protestor... with the magazine close enough to create the appearance that the gun and magazine were together when the protestors clashed with the police.
2) a protestor stupidly fell for it and pointed it at the officers, getting himself into trouble, while the officers knew it could not hurt them.

Nah, I think a more likely explanation is that the police planted the gun so they could discover it later. If a protester picked it up, then that’s even better. But the only simple plan, that explains the police behavior, is they wanted to be able to say that the crowd was armed and dangerous.

However, this still doesn’t explain the erratic behavior of the guy who picked up the gun and pointed it at police.

The guy was looking in the corner for it, but when the original officer dropped it in the corner, it ricocheted into the middle of the hallway. I guess he didn't notice. The orange hat guy can be seen looking for something that wasn't where it was supposed to be.

m not sure I understand your question.... They walk in and all see a magazine there on the ground. One of them sees it, extends his arms to keep the crowd from kicking it, then picks it up and extends it toward police, perhaps to make them aware? Then he continually looks around on the floor - presumably for the rest of the firearm. But, its just a magazine, so I'm not sure why you think it would illicit a deadly or fearful response

Ahh so you think it was a magazine in the protestors hand not a gun. Thats not what the OP or the video narrator were saying. They said he poinedt the gun at police.

The questions I have are why are police dropping magazines/firearms in this hallway? Trained officers dropping multiple firearms and walking repeatedly past it makes it clear that this wasn't just an accident. No one sucks at their job that badly.

Even if it wasnt an accident and was a set up, who would just toss a fully loaded (or unloaded) magazine up in the air and let it hit the hard floor. That is beyond careless and stupid. Im not sure what these objects were in the video but at this point I dont believe the narrative of the OP or the video narrator.

Yes, I think the narrator clearly got that wrong. The magazine was what he picked up.

No one would. Nor would trained officers just casually walk by as the barbarians breach the gate. Hence the doubt that it was just an accident.

Dear Lord

He was looking for his orange hat. As soon as the view switches to the crowd coming in, you can see the dude lose his orange hat off his head. The rest of the time he is looking down for it

When he finds it, he puts it on.

Whatever was in his hand, ended up in his right, rear pocket. Likely a cell phone. Thats also very visible
