SAT to Give Students 'Adversity Score' to Capture Social and Economic Background
quote:
White students scored an average of 177 points higher than black students and 133 points higher than Hispanic students in 2018 results. Asian students scored 100 points higher than white students. The children of wealthy and college-educated parents outperformed their classmates

“My emails are inundated with admissions officers who want to talk to our diversity kids,” Mr. Conroy said. “Do I feel minority students have been discriminated against? Yes, I do. But I see the reversal of it happening right now.”

An adversity score of 50 is average. Anything above it designates hardship, below it privilege
Anyone affected by this yet? If so wanna share the story?

Why are they saying this is a new model?
There is already a great example of placing people into societal categories. Why not copy that system since that's what the article's stated goal is.
Everyone knew their status - they had it on an ID card they were required by law to carry on them at all times.
Let's just copy that system.

One step closer to Idiocracy.

How do they account for the actual smart kids that come from less than desirable demographics. The ones that have good grades, are socially responsible even in their condition, and score commensurate to their intelligence levels?
Giving free points = intellectual welfare.

The war on drugs and broken window policing has been really bad for minorities and poor white people

And the adjusted kids will get into a college on diversity and guess what, fail miserably as normal.
You simply cannot socially engineer personal performance.

Identity politics will fix everything, just watch.

Good statement.
It would be interesting to see the failure /drop out statistics on the % of kids with test scores that would traditionally not qualify them to attend the school.
I would gather they are setting kids up to fail miserably in most cases allowing them to go to schools they don't have the mental acumen to compete in.

At least they stopped tracking the Hebrew race.
When I was in high school, that was a category.
Ivies had a 10% ceiling.
Instead of adding to the scores of Latinos and blacks just have a lottery for them. This is so messed up. Sure to be lawsuits.

When that happens the next step in progressive higher education will be to add diversity points to the test scores of those students so accepted who would not have made it without the diversity points added to their SAT scores. This is just a back door to affirmative action and it will be interesting to see if it survives legal challenges.

Should we not just remove race from the application process?

They will not stop until 'the gap' is closed through artificial means. And when the products of this messed up system hit the job market and can't get one if their life depended on it, they will blame anybody but themselves. And the ones getting screwed are the smart kids.
We need to completely nuke this system and implement revisions not unlike what POTUS is trying to do with the immigration system.

But think of all the student loans the government will be able to grant and earn interest on that will never go away because these students won't finish school; therefore, won't get that better paying job.

More free unearned shite that will attempt to put people into jobs and professions that could cause injury or complete failure. Great plan

calculated using 15 factors
Would be curious to see what these factors are. Even as a white student, I think I would have still had an increase in my score.
Works against me: White, safe school
Negatives: Single parent household, bad neighborhood, lived below poverty, often had utilities shutoff for nonpayment, sometimes would go without breakfast or lunch to help save money on groceries, parent w/ HS education only...
Silly me just used all of the negatives as motivation to succeed in school, finish college & masters program, and be successful in life so my family will never have to experience these things.
