1894:

OFFENSES CHARGED ARE AS FOLLOWS

Rape, 39; attempted rape, 8; alleged rape, 4; suspicion of rape, 1; murder, 44; alleged murder, 6; alleged complicity in murder, 4; murderous assault, 1; attempted murder, 1; attempted robbery, 4; arson, 4; incendiarism, 3; alleged stock poisoning, 1; poisoning wells, 2; alleged poisoning wells, 5; burglary, 1; wife beating, 1; self-defense, 1; suspected robbery, 1; assault and battery, 1; insulting whites, 2; malpractice, 1; alleged barn burning, 4; stealing, 2; unknown offense, 4; no offense, 1; race prejudice, 4; total, 159.

In that particular year 114/159 were rape/murder. This is from an antilynching essay.

Now should those 2 have been hanged for insulting whites? No. But I think we're okay with hanging murderers and rapists. Why were they not given trials? Who created this environment that led to mob rule?

Who ok'd mob justice? I'm just not overly sympathetic to her for an angry mob searching for her. Oh well. What happened happened. Shes fine. Better off than that boy she got killed

Mob justice is not justice.

It's more justice than just allowing murder and rape

Are those charges or convictions?

In 1894 the south was back to running itself.

What happened to her? Nothing? Yeah I'm fine with that.

Whatever. I wish no harm on her. But I'm entirely unsympathetic toward her.

These decent, caring race-huslters would do better to tackle the problem of the "lynching" of young black men at the hands of other young black men occurring on a daily basis in 2022....nah, they don't want to confront REAL problems.

The South has never really gone back to running itself.

Neither is justice.

Mob justice puts "justice" in the hands of the emotionally charged persons who have been wronged (or think they have), and their close friends and family who will believe them (or those that just want to tag along to kill someone). It's not justice because it isn't impartial. It doesn't consider the evidence nor seek to find the truth. It seeks to punish someone for what is believed to be true.

When the government acts like this, we call it tyranny. When a mob does it, people like you act like it's a virtue.

You can read all about it. All your school did was just leave that part out and tell you about the lynching without context. So you'd think they just did it for no reason. Like people were like let's go kill a random black guy. And you actually believed that. Half of them were not even black.

You have no idea where I went to school or what we learned
For the most part I fall on the same side of this as you, but you've been making some pretty hyperbolic statements with the complete lawlessness like everyone was fending off rapists and murderers every day in the South

It's not a virtue. It's a horrible situation that will occur every time out of necessity if the government stops dealing out justice.

You can think what you want, philosophically. If the government starts allowing lawless rape and murder, there will be vigilantism and mob justice. That's predictable.

Perhaps.

There may be, but that doesn't make it right.

I'm in favor of self-defense and grouping up to prevent lawlessness if the government doesn't provide justice, but not for revenge.

Nah, string that bitch up. Any of you trying to give her a pass are sorely lacking in your knowledge of this event.

It tells a lot about a person, who would want to actively assault the elderly, regardless of their past. Especially someone, who is in no way, shape, or form related to the victim of said crime.

Rex, examine your life. You are lacking parts that make up most humans.

Quite a stretch to make that the same thing bud. I wish no harm on her, don't want someone to hurt her in vigilante style. But if you're asking me to feel sympathetic for a little old lady in a nursing home being scared, I'm not. I'm just not.

So post-reconstruction you’re still going to pretend lynch mobs we’re necessary?

Because I’m pretty sure they were charging people with rape and murder in the 1890s and there wasn’t any Union army hanging around at that point.

My opinion is whatever crooked posse is in control, that's the government. And they're pretty shitty at dealing out justice no matter what. There's nothing special about being official, and our rulers srent't any more noble than the mafia or KKK. But when they clean up murderers and rapists I don't cry.
