You know I qualify at least as a sort of old white dude. Not as old as the Romney's of the world but old enough. And I will completely admit that there was a time in my life when I was far too willing to argue in favor of using US troops to police the world

But unlike these assholes I'm capable of learning from experience.

In fact this is one of those subjects where the people who say that talking politics never changes anybody's mind are wrong.

it rarely changes people's mind in that moment but people's minds do get changed over time if they are willing to let them.

I still hold most of my opinions from 20 to 25 years ago but that doesn't require me to hold all of them

Not that I agree with him,but I wish this mutha fukka would have shown this kind of fire 2012......If he had today he would be deciding where his Presidential library would be.

I wonder if he remembers all the shite they tried to pull on him back in 2012.....he was a sexist, cruel to animals, acloset homophobe, responsible for killing a former employee and if he had gotten effective he would have been a traitor/seditionist as well.

It is easy to tell when Trump hits the politicians and their friends in their pocketbooks. They come out of the wood work bitching about what he has done. Our government is corrupt beyond repair unless the people decide to rise up. Elections and the court system can never correct what has been allowed to go on for over 100 years in this country. The corruption started with income taxes and compounded annually into what it has become today.

it's not your fault any more than it was mine. there was war on LIVE TV it was presented to us on CNN LIVE as if we were anti American if we questioned it. it was made to be a way to stop 911 but Saudi Arabia was never carpet bombed so they lied, intel lied...

also back then we trusted our govt agencies a little more. you would think watching Waco LIVE on TV would have woke me up more.

a life lesson learned; just like always get a second medical opinion and not every doc is a great doc.

Years ago, the Left told me how bad Mitt Romney. We’re they wrong then, or should I still not be listening to Mitt Romney?

That was Obama's red line. You know, the guy that beat you Mitt. We were never supposed to be in Syria, it was never voted on.

Mitt never seemed to mind Presidents waging war without Congress. Only when war is stopped and American lives potentially saved do he and the Uniparty howl and cry. These people view the military as their personal mercenary force. They are pure evil.

I say we take Mitt, W, Bolton, Kristol, and the rest of the Neocon gang and all their children, give them guns and ammo and airdrop their asses into the middle of that shithole with 11 different bloody sides waging war.

Let them start killing whatever side they think is the bad one.

It’s not the five-day “pause” (as Erdogan characterizes it) per se that is being condemned. It’s:

1. Abandoning our allies who lost 13,000 people defeating ISIS;
2. Getting played and outsmarted by Erdogan;
3. Pulling out the 2,000 or so troops who were keeping the peace because of a phone call with Erdogan — without any forethought, preparation or notification to our allies or anyone else;
4. Squandering America’s prestige and showing that our leadership is weak, pusillanimous and shallow;
5. Inviting Russia and Iran to take over our previously strong position in the Middle East;
6. Showing that we as a nation cannot be trusted; and
7. Sending a letter so puerile and moronic that Erdogan threw it in the trash.

Then after all this, ordering fake sanctions which will be lifted because Erdogan agrees to stop killing the Kurds for five days so they can leave their homes permanently. No punishment for Turkey. No demand that they return to their borders. Nothing. Erdogan can’t take so much winning.

It is a monumental cave. The best foreign policy presidents in living memory- Nixon and Reagan - would never dream an American president could be so weak and stupid. It makes Jimmy Carter’s abysmal foreign policy look like a profile in courage.

Yeah, I know I’m wasting my words on this board. The president does plenty of good things, but when he screws the pooch this badly people need to man up and call him on it. Y’all are willing to call out your team’s football coach when he screws up. Amazing how many of you cannot see any mistake or shortcoming in President Trump. 2/3 of House Republicans voted to condemn his actions on Turkey and the Kurds, yet no one on this thread has a single critical or cautionary word.

Does no one appreciate that actual thoughtful political debate does not exist on this Board? The confirmation bias may feel good, but if you limit yourself to media where Trump is always right, you’re no more prepared to understand and participate in politics and leadership than the citizens of North Korea.

And thank you in advance for the downvotes.

America has zero prestige outside of the self-congratulation of the American political class and their sycophants in the media.

Showing that we as a nation cannot be trusted

Yes, because our psychotic foreign policy of pre-emptive war, regime change, drone bombings, coups and assassinations make us the most beloved person in the neighborhood.
quote:

Yeah, I know I’m wasting my words on this board

You're wasting your words because Americans are sick and tired of policing the world. Our military has become a private mercenary force for the American ruling class, while the working class baws of flyover country fight their battles and die for nothing. And many of those who survive come back with emotional scars that permanently ruin families. In your perverted world, vague notions like "American prestige and credibility" are worth risking American lives. To those of us with a conscience, this position is insanity.
