Utilities have massive fixed costs. The more users/meters that the fixed costs can be split amongst, the lower the monthly bills

You realize over 50% of the population lives pay check to paycheck and doesn't have enough money to cover an emergency expense of 1k dollars?

Thinking this would have been done if it weren't for all the negative press, is naive.
And a couple hundred bucks a year isn't going to make up for jack. These data centers need to start paying enough to clear peoples property taxes if people will be satisfied.
This is like jumping thru hoops to get $.76 out of a class action lawsuit.

No I haven’t and don’t care too. I’m not complaining about incentives to recruit businesses. I’m calling out how one sided they are, and believe the locals have the right to turn the tables in their favor when businesses need them more than the reverse.

AI is currently a bubble, but this goes beyond just one economic cycle. There is a reason China has become so dedicated in astroturfing groups for the cause.
Also, two things.
1. You have the most successful company ever (Google/Alphabet) heavily investing in it, one of the most successful companies ever (Microsoft) investing a good bit, and the best entrepreneur ever (Elon) investing in it heavily for all of his companies, as a backbone of his soon to be mega-corporation (when Twitter and SpaceX merge). They may all be a little optimistic and over-spending in the short-term, but it's unlikely that they're all wrong long-term.
2. This is more a general comment, but the main thing propping up our economy right now is the construction of these data centers (not the AI behind it) and the vast majority of the funding is coming from private sourcing. Again, even if there is over-spending in the short-term, we need the economic drivers right now. If we were using public spending to kick can (like the Trump-Biden economic model), then that would be terrible, but it's private money funding this.

Ohhh geez the “we can’t let china win” fear mongering propaganda response.
People are able to make up their own opinion without chinas propaganda and the data center investors propaganda.
We are America. In a decade they’ll be a solution for this that doesn’t take up a ton of farm land up. And I mainly hope we start getting more laws protecting citizens from the data collection creep that is out of control. We can’t be turned into the surveillance state that china is while trying to keep up with them. Cause that’s where things are headed.
