Just one way benefits lobbyists of big corporations.

Big corporations fund the livelihood of millions of Americans. Lobbyists help ensure lawmakers don't pass policies that would negatively impact that. Lawmakers don't have the bandwidth or experience required to write or vote on legislation on every single issue, thus the need for the lobby. I guarantee the industry you work for has an advocacy arm in Washington.

Agree that lawmakers should make more though, we need more high caliber people in Congress.

Maybe. But that means only post-retirees and wealthy people would be interested.

Not really. I'm not saying they should be making minimum wage.

I would accept a requirement that they can trade only through a dedicated trading platform that publically publishes any and all trades within 10 minutes of being executed, in a manner that a person does not have to create or login with a user account to access the trade history of any congressmember.

They passed a DC per-diem allowance to pay their DC rent,. We pay their car notes, they have an MD on call. Plus salary, best healthcare...

I have no problem with congressmen buying stocks.

But they should be treated like corporate insiders and only be allowed to buy or sell a stock from 3 days to 6 days after the company issues its quarterly financial results. For all of the other trading days of the year stock trading is verboten. And their trades must be made public the day of the trade.

That way it would be very difficult or congressman to trade on insider information.
