Politically, Van is an absolute loon. However, unlike most on the left, he’s good at separating his beliefs from the team sport mentality that afflicts the two party system.

he's a POS but he's always been grounded enough in reality to tell that the electorate is not nearly as liberal and socialism-happy as most of the nose-in-the-air democrats like to think it is

Interesting how he couches his statements as being a warning that Trump is going after black voters and that is a problem. What Van fails to see is that Democrats are the status quo for black voters in a political environment where the status quo is not popular. People want change and betterment of their lives. They don’t want to stick with something just because that’s the way it is. He pointed to real world examples of outreach that Trump has made and how democrats need to take notes. Van, how do you not see that Trump is making inroads with black people not because he is promising them stuff. He’s delivering the change Democrats have been promising them every election for 60+ years!!

No, Van is a communist by his own admission. But he's intelligent. That was the old cliche in the 60s:
