Hopefully the apology starts a conversation.

Will she apologize for stealing taxpayer money through credit card fraud and then apologize for the sewage and water board? I would guess not. But the 1891 crime that was over a hundred and twenty years ago that's a good thing to apologize for right?

Link isn't working for me. I remember my dad telling me about this lynching years ago.

Also, she should be very very careful about apologizing for things that happened to Italians. She may open up the terrifying secret that it's not only black people that were oppressed in America. A secret that Democrats try to keep hidden very very very hard.

Not saying the deed was right or not, but how the hell is something that happened 130 years ago the mayor’s fault?

I'm also Italian. My great grandparents moved on long ago and did great for themselves. Sure, they were not allowed to join the country club in the 50s, but golf sucks anyway.

It was basically everyone not British, French, or German. And even the Germans caught shite somewhat

Thanks for the new link.
Apparently it was a different lynching that my father told me about. It occurred in Tangipahoa parish and involved 6 men, one of which was a minor (according to dad).

Interesting quote from the link.

"When the law is powerless, rights delegated by the people are relegated back to the people, and they are justified in doing that which the courts have failed to do."

I'm Italian and I think this is stupid. I think 128 years is enough time to get over it.

As an Italian American, I don’t give a frick, just like I think it’s stupid to apologize and offer reparations for something some other white people did 100 years ago

I’m not gonna lie, I initially read this post as happening in 1981 not 1891. Why does Cantrell feel the need to apologize for this? It’s not like it’s a 100, 115, or even 150 year anniversary. This seems really random. Is this the source of some deep seated mistrust Italians have with new orlenians or something?
