Just for clarity the RCMP are our federal police force, so they do all highway enforcement and most rural policing. Basically there are City Police in the larger centres(centers) and RCMP that do everything else.

These tired replies to incidents such as these are just stupid. People break the law in every country.
A better question to ask would be: if gun laws don't "work", then why do such incidents so rarely happen in countries that have a lot of them?
