When I was a kid in the 70’s they seeded clouds to make it rain. You never hear anything about that now. Those were the days of global cooling.

The energy people spend on this shite is why conservatives have lost most of the institutions and most of the middle class. You can count on the right to do two thing consistently, one get sucked into some crazy conspiracy type framing and two, attack each other over who is the most pure "real" conservative.

When I would get bored at a trade show or a organizational event ....I would read what the paper presentations looked like. I'm talking IEEE and numerous engineering events. Then punish myself and sit through the crap. It only works if you have a copy of the paper in your hands and can withstand the stupidity of the presenter. Most have zero public speaking capability at all or can't be understood because of the accent.
There are always interesting ideas .......But if they are not worthy of an investment or the research .......Nothing but kindling for a fire.

Having been to many myself, including almost every National Lab in the country, I can relate to this.
