Compared to other states

Red= illegal

Purple= legal if rape

Blue= legal if woman health danger

Green= Blue + purple + damaged fetus

Yellow= legal on request

South was more lax on abortion than every state but NY, WA, and non mainland

South was fully democrat controlled back then. That was a long time ago. State politics have changed in almost every single state.

There's a reason they called it a Mississippi Apendectomy.

I agree abortion is an option if the mother's life is in danger, or if the pregnancy was caused by rape.

That's it.

Those are the only two instances. Abortion as a matter of convenience is irresponsible and reprehensible.

And, what?

Watergate and Nixon's resignation was fresh.

Southern governor was the Den candidate.

Ford was hobbled by economy and bruising primaries with Reagan.

Roe had almost nothing to do with that outcome.

I'm not saying it did; you misunderstand me. I was simply conveying the differing political landscape at the time. For full disclosure, I was originally going to post the election immediately preceding Roe, but it wasn't terribly helpful...

Yes, which makes its decision to vote for McGovern even more insane

Why did Nixon, a more moderate republican than Reagan, lose mass but Reagan win it?

But but I was told that the Democrats of the south back then are the same people that are Republican today...... how does that make sense.
