Man, I'm not a big fan of HB 269 that Ron just signed into law from Israel.

Let's read the law:

quote:

Public Nuisances; Prohibits person from distributing onto private property any material for purpose of intimidating or threatening owner, resident, or invitee; prohibits person from willfully & maliciously harassing, threatening, or intimidating another person based on person's wearing or displaying of any indicia relating to any religious or ethnic heritage; requires violations be reported as hate crimes; prohibits display or projection of images onto building, structure, or property without permission; prohibits person who willfully enters campus of state university or Florida College System institution for purpose of threatening or intimidating another person from remaining on such campus after being warned to depart.

This new Florida law is pretty subjective. I know it's intended to protect the Jews but this law will be turned on its head when Tallahassee or Miami-Dade liberal prosecutors turn this against Florida residence for displaying images that offend BLM supporters or tranny supporters. Does anyone else not see how this legislation is anti-free speech?

FWIW, apparently this Florida legislation was motivated by the actions of a group in Florida called the Goyim Defense League in which part of their activism was posting and distributing flyers that contain information about the Jews being mostly employed in the banking, finance, news and entertainment industries and having a major influence in those industries. That information is offensive to some apparently influential people.

I see this law being unconstitutional but it's going to suck for the people that have to go through the process of codifying this law unconstitutional though the federal court system.

Useless as private property laws exist and now it will be easier to lie and say someone was harassing you. I hate "hate crime" laws as they are open to abuse.

This was passing a law just to pass a law. Ron should have vetoed it.

The problem with the legislation is subjectivity. I'm good with it now because I politically align with most all prosecutors and law enforcement in Florida right now. But the major concern is when the political ideology of the prosecutors and law enforcement change and their views are not aligned with mine. Then I run the risk of getting jailed or fined for offending new liberal sensibilities.

Not sure what we wanted Desantis to do with a bill passed unanimously by the FL legislature.

Is there a veto proof provision in the Florida constitution?

I'm not a fan of the law, but are you saying the homeowner flying the flag would be prosecuted? B/c that's not the law. The law would be BLM going onto private property to harass a homeowner.

Also, this bill was literally passed by unanimous vote in the House and Senate, so it's veto-proof (if that matters still unless it only applies to Trump)

So there is a provision in the Florida constitution for veto-proof legislation?

2016-April 15, 2023 - "Trump fights! Stop playing the leftist games! We can't win with a platform of neutrality. WHATEVER IT TAKES!"

April 16, 2023 to present - "Wow I can't believe these viewpoint discrimination pushes coming from the right, it's unconstitutional!"

Lets not pretend otherwise

This is the part that bothers me:

quote:

based on person's wearing or displaying

So if I walk into an inner city Home Depot (private property) in Tallahassee with a shirt on that says "It's Okay to be White" I run the risk of 5 years in jail.

Well the president can't and if what SFP says is true the Florida governor cannot veto unanimous legislation either.
