Follow the chain of comments. My point is NYC pays the bills for the rest of New York, not the other way around.

So they got more of their money back. NYC is the economic engine that drives the state. It pays to the state far more that it gets back.

This "bailout" was NYC getting more of their money back
NYC...welcome to the way every other state works.
Still no reason not to have balanced books baws.

Just a smartass post to an apologist trying hard to defend budget mismanagement.

This thread went as expected. The socialist apologists want to give Mandan is credit for quickly “balancing” a budget even as he proposes to make everything free. When it is pointed out that 2/3 of the shortfall is a bailout by state government, they immediately pivot to the position that the city contributes the lion size share of state tax revenues.
When did the purpose of state government become to create a slush fund for poorly run municipalities?
Add in the deferred pension contributions and the picture looks even less rosy.
The leftists are so emotionally invested in this clown’s “success” that it has convinced itself that the equivalent of a debt consolidation loans means they aren’t still broke and can justify a family vacation.

And he did it without cutting social services. You love to see it.

For about 15 years revenue from NYC to Albany has grown in terms of $ and %. During the same stretch the amount (of their money) NYCs gotten back has remained relatively flat.
Should that just continue forever? Shouldn’t they get some of that additional revenue back? What’s the logic here?

Who is being an apologist for budget mismanagement? If the budget is so bad, why do you have to resort to misleading arguments to criticize it?

Pivot? Is it not true? Using your logic, any money that you got back because of Trump’s tax cuts was just a government handout.

Don't ask me. I made zero arguments. You would have to ask the current mayor. He used that and the deficit as a platform for election.

My post, in which you answered here, just pointed out that NYC is not the only economic hotbed supporting the rest of the state.
Maybe they should do what other cities do.

I am pretty sure you can say that about almost all major cities within all states.
