But if I'm wrong I'll admit it. Kip put other things ahead of cops and we were about ten percent below strength.
In June of last year BRPD were about 50 policeman below their maximum allowed (650/698). They typically don't hold new academies until they are around 20-25 away from their max.
So yeah they were definitely below the numbers they needed to be but looks like improvements have been made.

If you've watch various leaders sell the public good down the River as I have then you would know why do many are cynical.
The schools were not always terrible. The downtown was once relevant. Neighborhood were tight and people had a sense of community.
The present situation evolved and much of it has to fo with the schools and the Feds .
But you have no clue about me personally because much of what you want I want too, I just think without good schools well never get it.
I was there. I saw it. I was downtown when it was nice. I also saw corruption, but I also saw people abandon it, build quick fast money architecture, give little thought to it's planning and development, or it's future long term viability.
None of that matters now, and it's no reason to stay fixated in negativity as if that is somehow going to produce a solid foundation for St. George or anything else.
The retarded way of thinking that created this mess has got to stop or we should all think about just evacuating the entire state, because you can't run far enough until you or your kids finally run out of real estate to move to save out of state.

You asked to see a declining budget during the years the city went without police academies. I gave you that. So now you want to see what the actual expenditures were during those years.
Okay, here you go.... Page 477
I am amazed you continue to prove you have almost zero memory. I can't believe anyone who lived in BR during the 2008-2010 recession years can't remember the belt tightening EBR went through to balance its budget.

And that is exactly how I could never mistake you for anything but BR and those like it.
It's drilled into all of our heads from day one....Can't, won't work, not here, quit, move, negative negative negative NEGA MONSTER.... Baton Rouge will always be small and insignificant until the people stop seeing themselves as small and insignificant, not worth fighting for, building, investing in, etc.
God's honest truth of the matter, and you can take this to the bank...
If Baton Rouge was LSU, we wouldn't be satisfied until it was National Champion of cities every single year. We'd have the best food, the best nightlife, the best atmosphere, and the people would pack downtown like it does Tiger Stadium itself on said Saturday Night.
Guess what the extra bonus would be?
We wouldn't have to cram it all into a short season, but it could be year round.
Amen. Whats sad is new residents that move here believe this crap that everything north of I-12 is a war zone and you will be murdered twice daily

There was a shooting on Coursey right down from Shenandoah just last week. It didn't seem to get any traction on the OT for some reason though.
You're right Lloyd, it is ridiculous, and in my estimation it's fueled by this out of sight out of mind crowd that thinks it's removed geographically from the problem because their Walmart is newer than the one on the other side of town they left.

As much as that crowd likes to talk about the problems due to the influx of Katrina undesirables, they seem perfectly content to abandon their inner city like New Orleans did.
And to make matters worse, they fail to see that NOLA recognized their mistakes are working to take back their city.

Oh I remember the belt tightening but I had remembered basically a standstill budget with a flight increase after the recession
But you are tight there was a slight drop in expenditures so I see.

Dial up the murder map and you'll see where most of the problems are.

The inner city was abandoned in the 60s and 70s

A decaying inner city with murders? that doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. Lets all move to Canada
We should be advancing the economic prosperity towards the murders, not running from it. That is the only way to win

Let Kip continue to build monuments to himself - I don't dare go downtown! Everyone's got a gun, & most are using them! Who's he think he's kidding?

It's actually a perfect fit for him...
A couple years ago I would have agreed. Not anymore. Kip has shown his rear end on more than one occasion while representing BR out of town. It has been so bad that the group he was with had to apologize to the hosts. Not what I want from a Lt Gov whose primary responsibility is to promote the state.

What are you talking about? I lived in Mid City during that same era and it was the middle of the action. Matter of fact I had a slew of friends who lived all over NBR, including Plank, dating many girls all up in those areas. That just isn't true at all.

Man, good thing I made it out alive. I was just down there Friday night. How DID I live to tell the tale? I better tell my buddy who lives off Florida downtown. This might be real useful information to him.

Friday night? shite, I went to BluesFest, which i think in African means "white people murder day". There must have been an angel on my shoulder.

Russian's remark about Lionel Rainey and his bidding process got me digging. He sounds like a very shady individual. He launched his company 1 month before getting a $717,000 no-bid state contract for work that the State usually does itself. The reason it was no bid is because the payments were $1 under the limit before bidding kicked in.

Not sure why the media hasn't sought more info from the State on the nature of this contract.
More evidence that the invisible evil Baton Rouge power brokers are not at work, as this guy would have been destroyed by now.
