H1N1 infected 61 Million Americans and killed 20k. I am so unimpressed with your stats. Keep trying to scare people tho.

No wonder oil is under $20 with ‘attorneys’ like you representing the industry!

Don’t know about “lockdown,” but the Shelter In Place by Monday is almost a certainty at this point.

What computer models? This is a panic being generated nationwide / world wide. If you get old and find yourself warehoused with other old people who rarely step out the door.....you might get some sort of infection from an outbreak. If you get on a cruise ship with unclean HVAC systems you might get infected. If you go out to eat, you have a better chance of salmonella poisoning than getting COVID 19. The numbers bear this out

There was a guy on Medium.com from Silicon Valley that basically said the stats being presented overall did not support all of this panic. The overall take was that this is a race by state and local entitities to show who can be more authoritarian in the name of caution and compassion. The actions taken are way out of proportion.

Does this become the norm once some new bug appears. Are wholesale societal shutdowns something to be expected in our future from time to time?

The shutdowns in the US are being driven by the fear-mongering MSM and the Democratic Overlords trying to rid themselves of OMB.

I’m not the one trying to call the medical community of Louisiana idiots with absolutely zero evidence other than having the sniffles in January. If there was a rash of ards without any explanation I’d hope at least someone would notice and look into it.
first, it's possible that someone did and you just don't know about it. my physicians tell me how they stay at the office hours after patients are gone because they are on the phone with insurance trying to get things sorted out. second, these things are complicated. physicians don't have time to just sit around and ponder the mysteries of the universe. they are way freaking busy.

I'd break out the graph showing how genetically its proven the earliest it could have physically been in the US was around Jan 15th

Good, glad you brought up genetic testing. First, I'll point out that trying to pinpoint viral genetic mutations down to the DAY is not an exact science... Second, I'll point you to this article:

Wu Flu began spreading in October

If it was spreading in China in October, I can damn sure guarantee it was in the US before Thanksgiving.

Not sure why, given that there are probably only a handful on the board that can talk shop about it at my level.

It isn’t based on estimating mutation rate and working backwards. It’s sequencing en masse in a lot of times, dates, and countries to build a comparative database. The US strains contain mutations that were sequenced in China till around that date.

And down to the day wasn’t claimed. But a several day window? Easily. And in any case, you are maybe arguing possibly a week earlier. Not a month.

The fact remains no matter how long it may or may not have been festering in China, the earliest identified date of divergence from China was mid January. To claim that he was here earlier would require for mutations to randomly occur in the same places in the code in different places in the world.

Given the number of changes being talked about, that is basically impossible.

In any case, there not a shred of evidence to suggest that it was here at a broad level stateside. Even if you somehow magically handwaved the genetic analysis away, you don’t have ANYTHING to support broad community level spread earlier than established timelines except your wish to believe this is the same as flu.

.0002 of the state's population, and you extrapolate those numbers from this? Go frick yourself with a rake! Fear monger!

FWIW, the only people who believes it’s been in the area since January are posters on TD who thinks every sore throat or case of the sniffles they got was corona.

It was defintely here and spreading during Mardi Gras. That's the only explanation for the disproportionate number of LA cases, predominately in Jeff and Orleans.

No such thing. Why do people keep using this term?

You will not be prevented from leaving your home. There is no “lockdown”, anywhere.
