Plus limit voting to those who will actually pay the tax...

I’m as anti-new tax as they come but I’ve never understood this line of thinking. Renters pay property taxes via their rent expense.
And one of the votes was a sales tax. Which is arguably the fairest of any type of tax.

DAMN, we give Broome $40million a year. FML!!!!! I firmly believe it will go into the general funds before she’s out of office.

1) Renters don't pay the same proportion as homeowners. Not to mention fixed or locked rental rates.
2) Government assisted housing.
3) Homestead exemptions covering the value of cheapo houses.

Very glad the road tax passed. The voters did the right thing approving it.

At least Ardoin won. Thank fricking God we don't have Democrats in charge of our elections.

It will go in the general as soon as the first dollar hits the ledger.
The people that think otherwise are fricking idiots.

Well this is true. The revenue from the tax will go to road improvements. However, money that is currently going towards roads will be diverted elsewhere.

Just like the lottery.

Basically EBR just passed a tax for road improvements due to high traffic caused by the flight to LP. Damn!!! A win win for LP. Leave EBR for better quality of life, and make EBR residents pay to improve their commute to work.

What do you mean “same proportion”? And I never had a lease longer than a year.

My statement was understood to be people who are paying for their own housing.

No argument here. I think it needs to be scrapped entirely and millages revalued accordingly. Not to mention, accurate assessments...they’re all over the place and lack equity in payment.

This. This. 100% this.
I don’t see why people can’t see this. It happens every damned time.
You either have all taxes directed, or none, there is no in between.

And if I don’t rent my property out? I’m just supposed to pay more because you want to spend more on shite I don’t use or need?

I've been saying that all week. It's asinine.

per the usual, voters who do not have to pay high taxes or any taxes for that matter, approved something that all of the people who voted NO will end up paying for.
And we get a mental health facility to boot.

now we pay 10% in sales tax
All for what some 2 to 4 lane expansions, maybe slightly better major intersections. But no effort to fix the bottle neck that is the interstate in Baton Rouge and other key problems.
Also 10 to 12 years to do all of these projects
more like 20-30. This is just a political move by the mayor to say look what I’ve done for traffic when it’s unlikely it gets any better. The only big improvements would be another bridge over the river, a loop, or improving highways north and south of Baton Rouge to allow commercial traffic an alternate way to the east. Right now basically everything from Houston to anywhere in the south east must go through Baton Rouge.

One or two projects might get done.
You might even have a work stoppage on a project because the architect and GC screwed up.
The rest of the money will go to kickbacks and studies.
I see this a huge waste of money and nothing getting done.
Watch the mental health facility will make the news as an investigative reporter will find something on them.

It was all she could realistically do.

Man this. My house is assessed much higher than my neighbors who have a bigger house on a bigger lot.
