I’m surprised how little interest there is in Louisiana politics, given it is a Louisiana-centric board.
So here’s a thread..

SB15 is about to go up for a vote in the house floor.
This bans state agencies from procuring tech from companies known to help China spy on us.
However they amended it to let state agencies keep their spy equipment and to buy more at the beginning of the next fiscal year if they want to.
Such bold politicians.

There has been some discussions this session; however, I agree.
Seems alot less the past couple years than previous.

Lately, I haven't heard any news on Senate Bill 118 (Constitutional Carry), guess it's still sitting on JBE's desk waiting to expire or will he veto it?

The State is awash with money. No budget controversy. Wait
ill next year, though.

Not sure of the timing. If he can he will probably veto after session is over.

The legislature approved a 36 plus billion dollar budget. Illinois has a 44 billion dollar budget and a population three times larger than Louisiana.

Louisiana gets a lot of Federal dollars.

The governor just got West Point added as a license plate.

You sure that’s not apples and oranges?
That is, total Louisiana budget compared to Illinois state funds?

I believe its more reflective of the public's total lack of confidence in the legislature to govern the state effectively as opposed to a lack of interest. One can be as interested as you like, but the way our legislature functions is so corrupt and dysfunctional that it only leads to frustration.

Depends on who you talk with. Some proponents of the bill think the Governor will go ahead and sign or just allow to become law (without signing), because it received over 2/3's in both House and Senate. Therefore, he knows the votes are there to override the veto.
Others think he will veto and force the Legislature to call a veto session in order to override. There's question as to whether the votes are there for another session, especially considering re-districting is going to force more days in Baton Rouge.
The debate is interesting too, though. There are absolute pro-gun people who don't like the bill. The thought is that, yes, the bad guys will always get guns. However, there are concerns about someone who is a legit good person, who feels like they want to protect others, goes out and buys a gun to conceal carry without ever having shot it or having been taught proper technique. That could be dangerous as well, even if said person has good intentions at heart.
You can already open-carry in Louisiana without a permit, and maybe that's better anyway. That way the POS criminals see someone else has a gun, even if that person doesn't know how to shoot it (the criminal won't know).
I am curious to see what the Governor does, and if enough Legislators are willing to call a veto session. I don't believe JBE has any eye on higher office, unless he thinks he can defeat Cassidy and/or the GOP candidate for Cassidy's seat down the road. He could veto and not care about any reaction from the social conservative side because he doesn't need them to cross over anymore, or he could just opt not to sign it, let it go, and not care about needing votes from the Left anymore.

Illinois budget is $44b in STATE funds
So the equivalent is about $10 billion in state general funds for Louisiana.

I know you're on top of stuff like this more than anyone else here.
How is Illinoi's funding structure compared to Louisiana. Does LA State government also end up funding projects for local roads, sewage systems, police, etc. more than Illinoi?

Bingo... At least that's my perspective anyway. I have no faith in our government, zero, nada.

Don't really know. I think Illinois let's locals fund hospitals more but that's really just based on Cook County.
I know we have a messed-up pension system but that it is dwarfed by the dumpster fire that is Illinois.

My brother lives in Will County. The property taxes are kind of high because the county funds things there that are funded by state income and sales taxes here.
He pays $10k a year in property taxes. I’m not sure what his home is valued at. $400k would be pushing it.
