This bill is making it's way through the state senate.

la.gov link

The "Occupational Licensing Review Act" basically seems to attempt to prevent professionals from using/advertising certification in their respective professions.

This looks like it would apply to any profession which has any sort of non-government certification.

I honestly can see 0 benefit in this. Am I missing something here?

An example would be a physician board certified in his respective field would no longer be able to advertise himself as such.

To be followed shortly by a bill that allows the state to charge you a "Professional Licensing Advertising Fee". Serious, I bet that is where this is going.

Robert Herbert. I passed the Bar and I am licensed to practice law in the state. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Found it.

It's a money grab. I knew it.

Is it related to the “licensed” florist stuff?

Once again, LA makes itself an undesirable place for professionals to live.

This state continues to make dumb decision after dumb decision. Louisiana is the perfect example of Republican not meaning conservative.

If this is how we remove personal injury billboards/commercials I am all for it.

And who gives a shite about licenses anyway, we all know it's all about who you know, not what you know

Odd bill. I'm sure, for example, there is already a licensure process for master electricians. They can't advertise they have already become licensed in that respect by the state?

On the surface, yes. But the text of the bill allows (encourages) limitations of the power state agencies have over any licensure of any profession (i.e. no exclusions for healthcare, law, engineering, accounting, etc.)

Years ago I had some cards make up with Knight instead of Esquire, I gave them to friends and colleagues and explained I had been promoted.
