Went in 1991.
Ended up dating a girl that I met at the dance for a little while because she happened to live in the same neighborhood as my grandparents.

I’m having flash backs now. They cornered some guy on my hall asking if he was gay. Nobody wanted to room with him.
Times change.
Also I remember one guy telling people he wanted to be a mortician. He was a fat dude. I wonder if he became one or not.

1981.
Guest speaker was Dale Brown.
And yes the dance at the end with Girls State was...memorable.

"Vernon! Vermillion! Tensas, Tensas Huh!" was our cheer and one of the few things I remember.
And doing organized sprints since we were missing two-a-days

Didn’t get picked (although my older brother got to go). Still kinda salty about it because the kid who got chosen over me didn’t even go, but they still wouldn’t let me take his spot.

I was a kid who transferred in to my HS my junior year and had represented us out the gate for AP history convention or something.
It was basically me and a bunch of BR High School Asians going head up in a bunch of crap.

Went in 1955 - Mayor of Oklahoma City - (full disclosure = I was elected Mayor after all the people who had truly made Oklahoma City #1 had gone on to much higher offices like Gov. Senator. Judgeships. etc. We had the most ridiculous overbalance of talent imaginable. There may have been only a dozen of us left without having moved up to higher stations.) We were voted the "winner" of most every 'city' competition they had.
Remember - back in '55 there was little exposure to the rest of the social structure outside the rural area I where I was raised. We had only gotten a TV in '54 and all that the radio was used for was for dad to listen to boxing matches and St. Louis baseball games.
For me - it was the first time I had heard the name "Sooner" as a description for Oklahoma.
I had never seen anything resembling a court trial - the proceedings I witnessed in the Moot Court was the biggest thing I 'learned' from the experience.
Visited the Capitol Building & grounds and toured the campus = cemented my commitment to attend LSU.
My first solo trip.
Fantastic experience all around.
eta - from reading other posts, I don't even think Girls' State existed back then - certainly was not anything resembling a "dance" with anyone. Don't even remember seeing a girl the whole week.

I’ll assure you that you didn’t miss anything. Bunch of JCs acting like tools towards the high schoolers. And terrible food at the dining hall.
Memorable though was when Cox Communications reps came and did a presentation for the whole group, and after the talk, the boys erupted in a chant of “We Love Cox,We Love Cox!” Admins we’re not pleased. Still don’t know if we thought the female Cox rep was hot because she actually was, or if we had been away from girls that long...

Boys State in Georgia in lovely Statesboro. Thank god I was a tennis player and their was a female tennis camp going on at the same time. Almost got kicked out for sneaking out of dorms. Ended up getting a college scholarship after I wrote about how the experience changed me.

1989 here.
We went to sleep every night at 3 and had to get up at 6.
Dale Brown spoke to us and he predicted that LSU would win a national championship in the 90's.
Our mayor was an idiot and I had to write all his speeches.
No one went to the workout session where you could make up for missing football practice.
I still have a blue girls t-shirt from the dance.
