Ukraine wants Crimea back. The article suggests US backing for the aggressive actions by the Ukraine leadership. The comments are stating there is an escalation going on as we speak, with US forces already there.

I mean, if you were Russia, and you looked over and saw a mentally incompetent Biden in charge of America, would you waste the opportunity?

What's happened is Ukraine cut off the water supply to Crimea which was deliberately provocative since 80% of the Crimean population is Ethnic Russian. The reason Putin annexed it in the first place is because Ukraine was threatening them with genocide. Naturally the US and frankly Western media never told you that. But that's what happened.

So what's the basic gist of what is going on there with Crimea? Possible to find a basic version of each side?
Been going on a bit, and I know obama let the Russians go in and take it. But he let many of his pinko buddies do a lot of things they shouldn't have during his tenure.

You're asking the wrong guy. I'm not paying that much attention to it, just watching from the cheap seats.
My concern is where Biden is going to drag us into war and he seems to be itching to do it all over.

Remember General Wesley Clark's "Seven Countries in 5 years thing? I believe this is a part of that being put back in play.

We just signed a big arse arms deal there
So we are giving them money to buy obsolete weapons from us...
Aint no way the Uke's can compete with the Russians.
This will wind up with Europe getting their gas cut off again until they bend the knee deeply. Russia supplies 90% of their nat gas especially in Eastern Europe.

You know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak.

I have never heard of it. It sounds feasible. I've always been of the mind that ISIS was a CIA op. And back during the Obama years they were bragging about the CIA putting out a Twitter-like program to assist in fomenting insurrection.

If these fricking idiots get us into a war over the Ukraine, there should be a mass rebellion. Getting into a fricking hot war on the doorstep of a country that still has nuclear weapons targeted at us is insane.
Backing the Ukraine against Russia over the Crimea is about the same as if Russia backed Mexico in an attempt to retake Texas. It has absolutely no chance of success, and will only I start a war.

Yeah we are in the same boat.
Wonder if anyone else can give the 5yo versions from both sides.

Crimea belonged to Russia for a few centuries until a drunk Krushev (a Ukranian by origin) gave it away to Ukraine, a move that was unconstitutional even by Soviet Union standards. Post-USSR Russia let it slide until Ukraine insisted on joining NATO. The region is vitally important to Russia b/c it provides access to warm water. Ukraine was neglecting the place.

I’m not saying that I was pro war, but I bought into the Afghan, Iraqi military actions as being legitimate. My understanding was that we would go in, get the bad guys, then get out. Now 20 years later , we’re still there… I finally saw what those who came a generation before me saw with Vietnam.
It’s about the money, not the morality.
I still ( naively? ) hold to the idea that we can go in and do good with our military, but when it’s our own family that is paying the price ,that urge to push the button or put boots on the ground becomes far more selective & reserved.
