Then why didn't you say that instead of, "So?"?

I happen to agree with you that being led around by the nose by AIPAC isn't good for business, but it DOES explain the rationale - which is all that my post was addressing.

it all predictably turned into shite as it always does with maybe the exception of Egypt.

I think you meant to say, "with maybe the exception of Tunisia."

I don't think AIPAC had much to do with this. I think this was Obama's constant lust for some sort of Messianic legacy.

If you can't understand that this:

I can’t believe after the Iraq debacle that leftists are upset over this

Implies this:

I can’t believe after the Iraq debacle that conservatives are okay with this.

You're an idiot.

This board is nothing but assholes. It's funny that you single me out of all the other assholes only because I make you feel like an idiot.

No, parts of Syria were pretty nice, and the establishment wanted to raze it. If it hadn't been for a steady hand and massive support from Iran and Russia, the nice parts would have been overrun by uncivilized savages.

This is the position that America repeatedly finds itself in.

There isn't a thing the west can do to stop the middle east from imploding on itself. Let it.

Keep our country safe and it will be better for all.

i still don't see how people think we can change anything there for the good there. protect our borders and concentrate on improving the lives of everyday americans

That's probably because you're just a mark who will believe the worst possible assumption about the opposition rather than just go with the simplest, most obvious reason.

Nah, that's probably because it was well known that Obama was no fan of Israel. But, you can continue your whining

Seriously? What are you, 12? Syria has represented the most immediate threat to the State of Israel since Israel was recognized by Jordan and Egypt.

Yes..I am actually 12...such an awesome come back junior...

In case you didn't know...Iran is a far bigger threat to the State of Israel than Syria could even hope to be. If the United States ever turned the Israeli's loose, it would take about 1-2 weeks, maybe 3 for Israel to tear Syria a new a-hole.

quote:

"Muh, oil..." Maybe you haven't noticed, but Syria is of MAJOR importance to Israel, and apparently Israel is of major importance to the US, therefore...

Yeah...in case you have not noticed, oil, whether you like it or not, is a fairly significant item on the list of "things that are vital to the national security of the United Sates."

Liberal tears, soy, free wifi, pixie dust, gender-neutral bathrooms, or any other pseudo-intellectual desire to undermine, or change, our petroleum-based economy is simply friggin laughable and not worthy of discussion....go protest a wind farm for killing birds or some other worthy cause.

quote:

I can't believe there are so many ignorant fricks on here that have to have all this spelled out for them.

Look, before you include me in your "ignorant fricks on here" list, I used to be you...I used to believe that the USA could effect change in the Middle East. And to some extent, I still believe it is possible...but then we got the bill...Trillions of dollars wasted, thousands of dead American men and women, tens of thousand more who were maimed or dramatically affected by our "noble mission."

And what have we "achieved"? All we have simply done is moved the chess pieces around the board...

BHOs relationship with Israel was par for the course, TBH

Obama certainly was hesitant to go into Syria, but the political pressure is what got him to move. I believe that political pressure was applied in large part by congressmen who are on the AIPAC teat.

But then, I'm sure the Israelis, if forced to choose, would rather have us fighting Assad in Syria and keeping our embassy in Tel Aviv, than not fighting Assad and moving our embassy to Jerusalem.

Don't forget dining! Going to be lots of both this weekend!

American foreign policy, as it has been practiced by neocon Republicans and interventionist Democrats for the past 40 years, is pure evil. It has placed the interests of the ruling elite over the lives of its soldiers. It has justified the deaths of millions of civilians under the guise of promoting democracy. The only way for this country to get right again is to destroy the MIC.

All of this. It is past time we pulled out of Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Yeah, you're definitely in the Ignorant frick bin, as I do NOT believe we can effect positive change in the Middle East - if any at all - especially through militarism rather than trade.

I was against the Gulf War, I was against the Iraq War, I was against the War in Afghanistan, I was against participating in the war in Syria and the war in Libya, I am against supporting the Saudis and the Egyptians, and I'm extremely wary of supporting Israel. I am also against being beholden to NATO member Turkey.

You have never been me.

Oh, BTW, as far as:
quote:

oil, whether you like it or not, is a fairly significant item on the list of "things that are vital to the national security of the United Sates."

I love oil and our addiction to it, when the price of oil goes up, my revenue increases. That doesn't mean I have to be held hostage by a bunch of diaper-wearing barbarous Saudis over it. As a matter of fact, the less oil coming out of the ME, the more revenue for me. So I'm not quite sure what you meant with all your bullshite about soy and whatnot.
