I’m not totally disagreeing with you but this is a strange comparison. Yes there are comparable amounts of gun and cars. And comparable amounts of deaths from each but the millions of cars on the road are being used on a daily basis while the majority of the millions of guns aren’t been fired on a daily basis. Also very few of the car related deaths are intentional. Many of the gun related deaths are.

You have to understand the game being played here. If one of them says something that’s a complete straw man, and you notice it and point out that it is, they can’t take it back because they think that’s losing. They have to double down on the most extreme example of “liberalism” to get their attaboys from the group. The issue is he sees all the upvotes, thinks he’s being a good boy, and continues to use this strategy. Being completely unaware that anywhere outside of their little local pool hall here that wouldn’t work and they’d be laughed out of any debate using that awful deflecting tactic.
