But, of course, some people can afford to opt out of climate chaos. TMZ reported Tuesday that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West paid for private firefighters to protect their $60 million home in Hidden Hills, California, after the couple evacuated the home under mandatory state orders. The firefighters were reportedly successful in saving the home.
The Kardashian-Wests are not the only people who can afford to tap into private wealth to mitigate the most costly damage of climate change-related disasters. Insurance companies such as AIG provide wildfire mitigation services that allow certain clients to reduce risk and save themselves in the event of a worst-case fire scenario.
AIG’s Private Client Group’s Wildfire Protection Unit, for instance, is made up of AIG employees who are certified through state or local authorities. In addition to protecting homes with flame retardants, these AIG employees respond to fires and map homes in real time as wildfires approach.

isn't this kind of a case for showing how terrible the government is at performing a task and how capitalism can actually accomplish something?

The fires have more to do with the environmentalist wishes that no underbrush and fallen trees be cleared to preserve the natural environment, than it does with any climate change reasons.

If it was a mandatory evac why weren't the private firefighters required to leave? I thought only state or Fed "first responders" could stay.

I remember being a kid in the 70's and 80's and every year there were stories on the news about fires in California. Went to high school with a kid who lived in the LA area when he was elementary school and he told us they had fires close to them multiple times.
But, this is climate change causing this. Ok.

They fail to understand that there aren’t enough fire fighting individuals to save every piece of property at risk. The most valuable pieces of property (i.e. those belonging to the people willing and able to pay the most) will be the ones that get the most protection.
Damn it’s frustrating to exist with such a large population of people who have the exact same voting power with zero understanding of reality.

I really don’t see how this is a bad thing. This also helps the regular firefighters focus on other areas and keeps them from being spread too thin.

Maybe liberals should stop ignoring proper forestry due to tree hugging hippie crap and we would have far fewer wildfires.
Clear out the goddamn brush and make firebreaks and it will at least raise containment of any fires that break out.

A similar thing happened after Katrina when Israeli contractors were helicoptered into Audubon Pl for security. People with means have options.
