Opening game last year was 22.1 million. They are claiming it was down because LeBron James was playing. I've been saying the jock sniffers won't give up their sports regardless of what's happening.

It’s embarrassing for the nfl that the first major football game after covid lockdowns brought in many less viewers than last year
Take your L, NFLers

James playing in a western semi which isn’t a deciding game likely doesn’t explain a 1.4m viewer difference.

Would've thought the numbers would be worse than a 20% drop personally

They are pathetic.

Yeah, they are so happy because it was 20 million liberals watching.

I'm amazed at how many folks actually care about ratings. Watch it or don't, but if you choose not watch it I don't understand the obsession with constantly posting about it
Not calling you out specifically SEC7070 just an observation about posters on TD

This will not be the case moving forward.

IMO NFL went light on the woke stuff and were rewarded for it (relatively)

If you were really interested in the NFL fandom and ratings, compare NFL Redzone to last year's numbers.

This may be a stupid question, but how are the ratings weighed when it comes to TVs that are turned off while "tuned in" to the channel?
It's like when I travel and notice my hotel TV is set to CNN by default when I power cycle.
Drives me nuts.

Overnight ratings for nationally televised sports. NFL opening night:
2020 - 17.4
(NFL + NBA + US Open + NHL)
2019 - 16.9
(NFL + US Open)
2020 - 17.4
(NFL + NBA + US Open + NHL)
2019 - 16.9
(NFL + US Open)

That's not good at all, like I said earlier, even break even is not good. NFL had every reason with everyone stuck at home, bars and restaurants closed, 1/4 stadium, and fans starved for football to have a BIG ratings night. The NFL isn't losing much to the NHL at all, and NBA is dropping as it is, they didn't lose much to that. Should have been a big night for the NFL.

20.7 is still a great number. I suspect the numbers will go up from week to week.

I gave it up, feels great FYI!

I'd be willing to bet 75% of those viewers have no idea how many yards make up a field.

If you watched any of the game last night, you are a traitor to this country and you should give up your citizenship and leave.
