We used to have a very different view about the role of women. I recently watched a movie from 1958, 'It, From Beyond Space.' A crew of 8 astronauts were returning to earth and having a discussion at the dinner table. The 5 men were at the table eating. The 3 women served the plates, filled their coffee cups and cleaned up after.

Kind of depends on whether you think first wave feminism was a problem or just third and fourth wave.
First wave seemed pretty reasonable: right to own property, vote, bank etc
Basically everything up to 1920 was first wave.
Fourth wave is intersectional politics, me too, “body shaming”, “gender norming”.
IMO a woman has a right to vote, work and be treated equally under the law.
Most of what they’ve done in my adult life has been counterproductive to themselves, their families and our society by taking what started with good intentions way beyond where it ever should’ve been tolerated to go.

How old are you? I’m 69.
I have three older sisters. The oldest went to LSU and started in 1968.
I was very aware of issues of the day. Feminism roared onto the scene. People who weren’t there drastically underestimate the effects of the violence and chaos that dominated the times.
My poor mom and women her age were left bewildered. The world they had and expected to have evaporated almost completely overnight. Suddenly they were told they were worthless by the feminists who dominated the times.
Yay, they could get their own checking account. And more easily kill their baby in the womb. But, their new “freedoms” cost them dearly. And that’s just touching the surface.
It goes deep.
All of it has been minimized, ignored or absolutely forgotten.
And that is just one facet of those times. There has been nothing like that since. I don’t care what anyone who didn’t live it has to say about it.
I was there. And quite aware because that was the world I was entering into. It was rather unsettling to say the least.
This has opened up the memory box. I could go on and on about the 60s.
But, muh boomers.

Most of my friends and I grew up with a dad working and a mom at home.
Could they work? Sure, but it wasn’t at all considered a “waste” to stay home and most of them didn’t seem to resent it.
Now they view it as being “trapped” or are otherwise conditioned to believe they’re somehow slaves to a man if they stay home with a degree to raise a family which is where I go from being in favor of equal rights to absolutely opposed to the movement.
If you say it happened back in the early 70s for you I believe you, it just wasn’t really the norm where I was.

I’m referring to the 60s. I was born and raised in Baton Rouge.
The backlash against feminism started in the 70s however the movement had momentum because the minds of girls and young women are easily poisoned and the damage was already done .
By the early 70’s real inflation began and women were expected to be in the workforce because now the family needed two incomes to keep up with the joneses. Women like my mom had expected to be able to run a household and raise a family.
Now they were supposed to burn their bra, revolt, and enter the workforce and compete against the men. Some celebrated and some were totally disoriented.
The only generation that I know what the name is is baby boomers because that’s what I’ve been called.
I don’t participate in class stratification because it’s meaningless and is simply a Marxist tool to keep us at each other’s throats so we won’t look at them to see what they’re doing to us.
So I really have no idea what a millennial is. I don’t care nor do I care to know so tell me how old are you so I’ll have a frame of reference for your comments.

I’m an 80s kid.
Nuclear family, safe upper middle class childhood riding bikes, sports, fishing and all the things you’re supposed to get growing up in America.
Young enough to see internet culture and cell phones take off early but young enough to have enjoyed some of life before it took over.

I was older but I was all over the pre-internet dial-in message boards with a 180 baud rate modem.
As soon as it was available, i was online. Still dial-in but “www”. Before graphics.
I even made the comment that,
“you know what? this is gonna become really commercial and people are gonna make a lot of money off of this.”
I really did.
And here we are again and this time it’s with AI.
