Other countries are smaller than us, thus it is like a state voting for their governor.

We are like the EU but unlike the EU where Germany is ordering them around, we get to tell people to frick off if need be.

How do other countries that don’t have an electoral college get along? Maybe it’s y’all that need to take a civics class. Good to know mynanmar and Estonia have electoral colleges

And none of them, in fact, none in history have been as great as the United States of America.

Do you think that maybe the US got something right?

We aren’t a republic of people, we are a republic of states.

But in a national election, it should be one person=one vote, regardless of what state you live in, who the president is affects us all equally.

Sorry. NYC and CA don't get to decide who the president will be for the rest of the country.

Lame post. You didn't do well in civics, did you?

It takes well more than 7 states' worth of electoral votes to get to the required 270.

Wtf? Why would you ever want to be like those countries? But if you do and they do it so much better then I suggest you move there and participate in their process.

Is it that hard to understand the system we have allows for the smaller places to not be ruled by the larger places? In other words what's good for Los Angeles and New York may not be what's good for Nebraska and Kansas. Our system accounts for this discrepancy and it's probably what has kept this great country united for so long to be honest.

I mean I find it pretty short sighted to want to change this based in a couple of elections some side may have lost, but hey that's just me I guess.

But 40 of them are a given. Only a handful decide. If you live in Florida or Ohio, you’re vote is crucial, we saw that in 2000, if you live in California or Louisiana, it’s meaningless

Your post would seem to suggest otherwise. Nobody who "got" states rights would ever suggest a popular vote for POTUS.

but yea, it's scary that an elector could in theory go rogue and vote against his constituents.
Pretty sure that was the original intent. The electors were supposedly more wise than the masses, and they were to take the people's vote into consideration and then vote how they wanted to. Right?

Uh wrong. Population centers which are significantly smaller part geographically of the country would dictate who is president. That’s why the founders were geniuses.

That's simply not true. Each state including Louisiana has electoral votes based on population.

You can only win the presidency with 270 electoral votes and Louisiana and California figure in to the total. Every state counts.

Plenty of other countries get along fine. Your vote in Louisiana doesn’t matter one bit. Sorry, move to Ohio if you want it to matter.

How? Someone who lives in a big city’s vote wouldn’t count more than someone who lived in the country.

you have zero grasp of reality. In this election, there are 4 or 5 swing states.

20 years from now, it will be a different 4 or 5.

What you want, would make your vote count less. Why can't you understand that? The States are what keeps the Federal Government in check.

No matter how many times you repeat this, it's not true.

Tell all the Democrats in California or all the Republicans in Texas to stay home and not vote because their vote is meaningless. See what happens.

Yes, we have a handful of swing states that have proven to be the difference-makers in presidential elections, but that doesn't mean the votes of other states' citizens don't matter.

It's like saying that the only play that mattered in a 31-30 football game was the game-winning FG as time expired. Which is dumb, because there were a lot of other plays that dictated the outcome of the game.

the two examples of countries that "get along" fine were "Estonia" -- part of the Soviet Union until 1991.

And Myanmar. A military dictatorship until 2008.
