It's not even debatable...

It would have ended it at some point. Which makes the civil war such a shame

When history is rewritten, anything is debatable.

In Western Civilization, The Black Death ended the feudal system. It gave birth to the middle class, mercantile system and capitalism.

If not for the aforementioned you as a 15th generation descendent would still be picking cotton or soybeans today, on one of my many plantations,
No reperations without compensation.

Eli Whitney did more to curb the slave trade than anyone.
John Rockefeller saved more whales than anyone.

This is what I had heard as well.
Suddenly workers were at a premium after so many died off during the black death.

Let me give you some anecdotal evidence that people are dumb about all this kinda stuff.
Sitting in a teacher development conference before school started one year. I and another guy taught tech ed so we were probably the least “educated” in the room. There are many people with masters in this training.
Some leadership thing the principal was discussing lead to him asking the room what they think would have happened if America would have lost the revolution. This is a good time to add 80% of the people in this room are black. And again, I reiterate, have fricking college degrees.
Almost to a person they agreed that slavery would still be going on if Britain had won.
I looked at my tech buddy and we shook our heads. These people, mostly, couldn’t have told you when Britain ended slavery. It was just all about how people are still keeping them down. It was crazy.
So I dropped this word salad to make the point that most people know nothing of history, or how we got here, but just insist that oppression is still going on.

If slavery had still been legal, can you imagine working conditions and “company towns?”

So what are we calling human trafficking now?
