quote:I don't agree that they were racist. The may very well have been, but we are not mind readers, and I'm sick of every time a black person and a white person are involved in a homicide, if the white person survives then they're racist. There was zero evidence of racism in the George Floyd suicide, but we were told it was about race. Sounds like they were trying to catch someone who had been acting suspiciously, and then he tried to take the gun away. He didn't deserve to die, and I won't say he "got what was coming to him", but lots of white people have been killed for being in the black part of town, and trying to take the gun may have been what got him killed. I just reject the assumptions.
You mean, the two racist assholes who murdered him?

The openly racist chatter has really picked up lately, especially with regard to unfounded beliefs about IQ.

In this case, I’m referring to TD.
Racism is not the appropriate response to racism. But I suppose it is a predictable result.

It was headline, singular. Of several hundred you picked one clear error and attached yourself to it.
May it be because that's what you want to perceive from the situation?

Or maybe I only read the one headline that I saw in this thread?

No, but I took English classes and a technical writing class.

Oh wow, you took a class.
In the real-world, writers do not have control over their headlines. Things don't work exactly like you've been told. The point of a profit-making media is to make a profit, not tell the truth. Headlines are subject to the former, and not the latter.

Building your perspective of the world through single headlines on a political msg board is not a great look.

Have you seen this old man's house? Signs everywhere to stay away.. Keep off.. Cameras, fences. The old man was a terrified, paranoid human... Not a white supremacist out to kill blacks. The media is a bunch of pussies for not calling this what it is.. An 85 year old mentally ill man who felt vulnerable to the crime that is all of St.Louis today. . I have a carbon copy of this old dude 2 blocks from my house.

What time did this happen?

quote:
Yarl, an honor student and all-state band member, was supposed to pick up his two younger brothers when he approached the wrong house at roughly 10 p.m. Lester came to the door and shot Yarl in the forehead — then shot him again, in the right forearm.
quote:
No words were exchanged before the shooting, the probable cause statement said. But afterward, as Yarl got up to run, he heard Lester yell, “Don’t come around here,” the statement said.
quote:
Lester told police that he lives alone and had just gone to bed when he heard his doorbell, according to the probable cause statement. He said he picked up his gun and went to the door, where he saw a Black male pulling on the exterior storm door handle and thought someone was breaking in.
quote:
Police Chief Stacey Graves said that Yarl’s parents asked him to pick up his brothers at a home on 115th Terrace, but he mistakenly went to 115th Street
quote:
By Monday afternoon, the home where the shooting happened had been vandalized. Black spray-paint on the side of the house showed a heart with “16” in the middle. Eggs splattered the front windows and the door.

I ask again because it got no traction the last time...
Did the public ever see arbery's criminal record?

Wasn't it widely reported at the time?
Also, it I don't think it was relevant to the case.

Not an unrealistic thought. If I was awakened in the middle of the night to some random guy pulling on my door handle, I'd probably think my house was being broken into as well.

I mean, I kind of agree and to an 84 year old man, 10 pm may be "the middle of the night"
However, the kid rang the doorbell, which someone breaking in wouldn't typically do

quote:It's fair to say the white trio made assumptions about Arbery which on that day did not bear out. Would they have made similar assumptions about a White jogger? Seems doubtful.
I don't agree that they were racist. The may very well have been
Perhaps one could argue that if their neighborhood was all White (doubtful), the fact Arbery was Black would identify him as not being a neighborhood resident. That would still be dubious rationale in terms of racism, but possibe.
In the end though, the behavior of the trio, caught on video before and after the murder was pathetic, especially that of the shooter. Testimony was the shooter repeatedly used the N-word, and addressed Black people as if lesser to Whites. His behavior walking away after the killshot supports that attitude.
