My understanding was that Muellers job was never to exonerate Trump or not. Just to determine if there was evidence to indict or not. Or am I wrong about about that?

In the end, I don’t think it matters if the report doesn’t exonerate him. The report states that Mueller found no evidence of collusion, and without evidence, what can Trump be indicted for?

True but the difference is they say, “it didn’t exonerate Trump!” But Mueller never would have done that. if you were arrested for a crime and the DA couldn’t find evidence to prosecute you they woukd just say “there isn’t enough evidence to charge you” not, “ he’s innocent”.
I could be wrong but that has always been my interpretation of what would happen.
