There are likely several reasons for this.
Not liking either candidate is a sign that someone is fed up with the system in general. So, it's not surprising that this number is higher when our country is at its lowest.
We've also never had a media that lies and attacks a candidate as much as they do Trump. Even conservatives are susceptible to the media's influence. I've seen staunch conservatives on this board repeatedly parrot the media narrative.
Trump isn't a typical politician. Many people dislike him for that alone. They want cookie cutter candidates that act the part.
People who have never really aligned with either party regularly dislike both candidates. So, the large shift in numbers is due to people that generally like their party's candidate but don't this time around. For Biden, those voters finally woke up to his incompetence. For Trump, it's all about his personality. And there are still too many Republicans hung up on Trump not being passive like their typical leaders.
