What I’ve read is Starlink has not been nationalized. There is some who favor that. The military supposedly operates their version of Starlink, Starshield. Musk controls Starlink.
It appears Ukraine uses both Starlink and Starshield. It’s not clear to me how much of each.

Blaming Musk for damage inflicted by the Rus v Uke war would be classic socialist/communist playbook.

Damn, they're pissed. And Musk's lawyers are dreaming of the billable hours.
Really, really stupid actions from a so-called genius. They need to take his Playstation away.

Bipartisan lawmakers are calling for an investigation into Elon Musk after The Wall Street Journal reported that the SpaceX chief restricted Ukraine’s access to the company’s satellite-based Starlink network.

Ok, a bit over the top, but it shows how the narrative is shaping up. Of course, all of this makes the incorrect assumption that after the war there will exist an "AvtoVAZ" and even a "Russia".
quote:
Russia launches state-supported project envisioning a future where Elon Musk flees to Russia and starts building cars with "AvtoVAZ."
If the Democrats win - it is almost certain felon Musk will be investigated for his illegal visa entry to the USA, the illegal actions he conducted under the cover of the data theft operation DOGE, all of his corrupt support for the Trump regime, as well as the illegal funding and tax breaks given to his Ponzi scheme companies will be uncovered. [Plus this latest Starlink shutdown fiasco.]
Potentially seeing him lose all of his businesses and money and spending the rest of his natural life behind bars.

Ukraine struck the 75th Arsenal in Serpukhov, Moscow Oblast, overnight on 22 October. The attack involved missiles or jet-powered drones. A missile alert sounded in the city during the strike. Flames rose beyond the tree line, then faded to a red glow under a broad plume of smoke.
The site provides defense-industrial repair and storage for military equipment, including air-defense systems. According to Rostec, the facility repaired Buk-M1, Buk-M2 and S-300V equipment. Hitting a site that services those systems reaches beyond a single battery. It targets the machinery Russia relies on to restore and hold its air-defense inventory.
WHY SERPUKHOV MATTERS OSINT analyst Jompy singled out the 75th Arsenal in March 2024 as the only Russian surface-to-air missile storage base he had identified. The strike puts a facility tied to both the repair and storage of Russian air-defense equipment in the Moscow region under fire.

Maybe Musk's flight to Russia isn't such a stretch after all... Juries always love and understand good photographs.

I think it was Ned who wanted nationalization. SpaceX received contracts for launches because it can do them for less than NASA. Pending Falcon 9 first successful launch.
Musk provided Starlink for FREE to Ukraine and after a time wanted payment for this. US provided those payments.
Retards will be retards.

Russia attacks Kyiv using missile with cluster warhead to injure as many people as possible
Alona Mazurenko — 22 October, 11:43
Russian forces struck Kyiv with an Iskander ballistic missile on the night of 21-22 October. The missile was carrying a K5 cluster warhead, which is used to inflict maximum damage.
Source: Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to the president and radio technology expert
Quote: "Tonight, Russia attacked the historic centre of Kyiv with an Iskander ballistic missile equipped with a K5 cluster warhead.
This warhead detonates above the ground and is used specifically for inflicting maximum harm to people and equipment over an area of 400 by 400 m. Its 58 bomblets explode in the air.
This strike was not carried out for military purposes. The goal was to destroy part of the Old Town and injure as many people as possible. We have many wounded civilians and widespread destruction."

Musk had issues with ban on importing Russian aluminum to Germany in 2022. Rusal at least was the largest producer of aluminum in the world. Peter Zeihan got it backwards. Russia has a lot of cheap hydroelectric power. The vast majority of plants smelting alumina into aluminum are where hydroelectric is. We had them on the Gulf Coast in TX and LA until natural gas pipelines inland were built. It was almost free on the Gulf Coast until the early 1980s.

Here's a good article giving information about Ukraine's use of Starlink and StarShield and who's paying for them as well as US intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
Poland is also a major contributor to paying Starlink costs.
LINK
quote:
Is Ukraine using Starshield or Starlink?
It uses both. Starlink has been providing internet service to Ukrainian civilians and military forces since 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, according to Reuters.
Initially funded by private donors and a U.S. foreign aid contract (USAID), SpaceX won a Pentagon contract to pay for Starlink for Ukraine in 2023, along with a contract for 500 Starshield terminals.
In August 2024, SpaceX signed another Defense Department contract to expand Starshield usage to 3,000 terminals for the front lines, Bloomberg reported.
Beyond communicating with and guiding drones over long distances, Starshield also serves another function: It connects every sensor and weapon system on the battlefield. Disruptions to the service have an impact that can be compared to an office having to function without being able to connect to Wi-Fi.
Poland is also a major contributor to paying Starlink costs.
quote:
Poland has spent nearly 500 million zlotys (about $124 million) to provide Starlink satellite internet services for Ukraine, with no agreement yet in place for 2027. However, it appears Warsaw does not plan to end its financial support.
Poland began funding Starlink access for Ukraine in 2022, covering the cost of nearly 30,000 terminals and their connectivity, according to recent disclosures following Kyiv's statements about Starlink speed limits. The current contract, reported by Rzeczpospolita, runs until the end of December 2026.
quote:
The current contract is valued at 143.3 million zlotys (about $36 million) and remains in force until December 2026. The newspaper reports that more than 100 million zlotys (about $25 million) could be spent by the end of the year, on top of the totals already cited. These future payments are not included in the current figure of more than 480 million zlotys (about $120 million).
