I'd prefer an old-school Reagon/Buckley/Goldwater Republican take office but beggars can't be choosers right now.
Guy who wants a new Reagan also wants to use the government to take over a private business because he doesn't like how they are treating his actual favorite country

ZELENSKYY REGARDING THE EUROPEAN STARLINK ANALOGS: All the Europe has seen that it's possible to regulate Starlink connection from the U.S. independently of contracts. Now Europeans are raising the question of analogs, and they're already working on it, and they will succeed. I can already see it.
“Regarding the Starlink analog, first of all, we use Starlink, we work with SpaceX. Unfortunately, due to what's happening now, there are limitations, unfortunately, but nonetheless. But Europe is watching this. This issue is not only about us. All of Europe has seen that it's possible to regulate from the United States independently of goodwill and contracts, you can limit Starlink's speed, meaning your security, because you rely on it. And Europeans are also using this system. And so now Europeans themselves are raising the question of analogs, and they're already working on it, and they will succeed in this direction. I can already see it”

If you think this proposal seems to have been issued late, that's because the translation from the Russian took longer than expected.
quote:
The Trump administration is proposing that Europe resume buying more Russian gas as part of a potential Ukraine peace settlement, according to the NYT. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff have raised restarting pipelines that carried Russian gas through Ukraine in talks with Ukrainian and European officials. The proposal would generate revenue for Moscow and Ukraine, while European officials have pushed back against reversing years of efforts to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

The operative word here is "scale".
quote:
Ukraine now has six companies producing turbojet engines at serial scale, according to Brave1 defense cluster head Andrii Hrytseniuk. Eleven Ukrainian companies are developing such engines in total. Hrytseniuk said no private Ukrainian company produced them before Brave1 launched a dedicated funding program in 2025. Establishing production took more than a year and a half.

There's that Dunning-Kruger again - great technology sabotaged by an owner with the emotional maturity of a 14-yr. old.
Let's take a moment of silence to remember Starlink along with that other great applied technology - Tesla. RIP.

Yes, but not one drone touched Putin's Valdai summer palace. Must have been those 33 Pantsir AD units parked there. They're doing a great job.

Trump has rightfully nationalized private companies deemed essential to national defense from chip companies to steel companies to natural resource companies.
It’s in our national interest to stop Russian expansion into Europe. A company impeding that effort is operating against our national interest and should be nationalized.

Zelenskyy says Starlink restrictions for Ukraine came from US government
Ulyana Krychkovska-Bogdanova, KATERYNA TYSHCHENKO — 18 October, 17:48
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the signal to restrict Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet service, and Starshield, its secure satellite communications system, in Ukraine came from the US government.
Source: Zelenskyy on NBC's Meet the Press, as reported by European Pravda
Quote: "The message came from the government. I don't know from whom, what cabinet, etc… It was a message from the American government to limit this speed and technically SpaceX did it."
Details: Zelenskyy was asked to clarify whether the system's operation has been fully restored.
"No. Of course not. We have limitations. The speed is maximum 161 km/h," he replied.
Background:
Speaking at the White House on 16 October, Trump said he does not believe that either he or Musk is responsible for Ukraine losing access to Starlink. The Pentagon has not publicly explained the reasons for the restrictions.
According to The Telegraph, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink operations in Ukraine.
On 17 October, Zelenskyy said a test conducted by Ukraine in EU countries has confirmed that the restrictions on its use of Starlink have been imposed as part of a planned operation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration "has nothing to do" with the restriction of Starlink's operation in Ukraine.

This is either an outright lie or a complete misunderstanding of what nationalization means.
Having a less than 10% stake in Intel is not fricking nationalizing it

quote:GOP threatens Pentagon Budget request over Trump's Russia policy Newsmax
Some House Republicans are threatening to block new Pentagon money unless President Donald Trump gets tougher on Russia, a warning followed Friday by his waiver of sweeping new sanctions on Moscow.
The threat comes as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth presses for at least $350 billion in new military spending through reconciliation, a party-line budget package Republicans hope to move after next month's midterm elections.
Hegseth said Wednesday at the Association of the U.S. Army's annual conference in Washington that the push would continue "regardless of what happens in the midterms," Defense Daily reported.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., took aim at the agencies responsible for restrictions on Ukraine's access to Starshield, the military-grade version of SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet that Ukrainian forces rely on to guide drones.
"Agencies won't get funding if they're not doing their jobs," Fitzpatrick said in remarks reported in the Kyiv Post, cited in The Wall Street Journal.
Who ordered the restrictions remains disputed. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said the U.S. government controls Starshield and that the military, and ultimately the president, decides any limits on its use.
Trump has insisted Washington is still sharing intelligence with Kyiv.
Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., went further. In an X post cited by Raw Story, he said the administration's decision to reduce intelligence sharing with Ukraine and its Starlink access "equates to aiding the invader," and he questioned whether the White House expected any Republican support for the rest of the current Congress.
Then came the sanctions waiver.
Trump signed an executive order Friday waiving most of the Russia penalties in the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which he signed into law Sept. 18, certifying that the step was "in the national interests of the United States."
The law, named for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who died in July, would have imposed tariffs of up to 500% on Russian imports and mandatory sanctions targeting Russian banks and on Russia's so-called shadow fleet of oil tankers.
Those penalties were due to take effect Sunday.
The waiver also shields a Treasury Department license, valid through April, that allows Russian diesel into the U.S. as Trump looks to Russian President Vladimir Putin to help ease rising diesel prices.
Without the waiver, the law would have required tariffs on Russian petroleum products and sanctions on ships carrying them.
Senate Republicans joined the backlash.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said it was "unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator," ABC News reported.
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said enforcing the sanctions now would hinder U.S. efforts to negotiate a peace deal, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the decision wrong.
As of Sunday, the waivers remained in force with no fixed expiration date.
The funding fight could come to a head during the lame-duck session, when Congress must also pass legislation to avert a government shutdown in December.
Hegseth has expressed confidence the defense package will move forward.
