On 9 September, deep strike units within Ukraine's Special Operations Forces successfully hit two giants of Russia's gas condensate industry: the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants.
Very significant strike.
quote:

CyberBoroshno analysis says FP-1 drones struck the de-ethanization gas preparation unit at the Urengoy condensate processing plant, more than 3,000 km from Ukraine. The facility processes up to 19.5 million tonnes of feedstock annually. The hit unit handles gases containing ethane that are meant to supply the Novy Urengoy gas-chemical complex, designed to produce up to 400,000 tonnes of low-density polyethylene per year. The strike disrupted the production chain.
quote:

Fire Point confirmed its FP-1 drones flew more than 3,200 km to strike the Novy Urengoy condensate preparation plant, setting a new range record. The company says hits were recorded inside the facility, which has a design capacity of up to 19.5 million tonnes of raw material per year.

Exilenova+ satellite imagery also confirms another hit on Russia's Admiral Makarov frigate in Novorossiysk. The Black Sea Fleet warship had already been struck there in April and August 2026. The April attack reportedly caused an 18-hour fire and left it unable to launch Kalibr missiles.

More winning. Time for the adults to step in.

The Financial Times reports that CIA Director John Ratcliffe may take a larger role in US negotiations with Russia and Ukraine, while Washington considers reducing the involvement of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The White House called the report "totally fake news" and said both envoys retain Trump's full trust, while the CIA also denied the story. People familiar with the matter said Trump has not made a final decision.

Ratcliffe taking over shuttle diplomacy from Witkoff and Kushner is the first sign this administration might finally understand the assignment.

Witkoff treated Moscow like a real estate negotiation where you just need the right golf course anecdote.

Kushner treated it like a networking event.

The Kremlin only respects power. Ratcliffe at least operates from an intelligence baseline. He knows what the FSB and SVR actually are. He sat with Bortnikov and Naryshkin and didn't come back parroting Kremlin talking points about "legitimate security concerns. That alone puts him ahead of half the people who have worked on this file.

The infighting is real though. Witkoff won't surrender influence quietly because his entire relevance depends on being the guy who talks to Putin. But the White House leaking this to the Financial Times means the shift is already being tested publicly. This administration signals its internal losers this way. For Ukraine the practical question is simple: does the channel produce pressure on Moscow or just more process?

Ratcliffe's previous trip reportedly included a blunt warning that Russia's position deteriorates the longer this drags on. That's the correct frame. Now he needs the authority to act on it.

Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces say they struck more than 34 energy nodes across occupied Crimea and other occupied southern and eastern regions during the first week of September. Targets included electrical substations, traction substations, gas distribution stations and the Luhansk thermal power plant. Since July 6, the "Crimean Switch Off" operation has targeted 374 energy nodes across Russian-occupied territories.

CNN no less. With the Russian strikes on the SBU Office in Kyiv last week, this may show that they are actively targeting Ukrainian leadership. That Kyiv got this on CNN is significant. They may be shaping the media for their counter-attack. They know it won't stop on it's own, in spite of rumors that the SBU strike was a 'mistake'.

quote:

Moldova's ambassador to the US, Vladislav Kulminski, says it is "most likely" no accident that a Russian jet-powered drone entered Moldova while Zelensky's aircraft was on the ground at Chisinau airport. He said Moldova does not believe such drones simply enter its territory for surveillance while the Ukrainian president's plane is there. The incident delayed Zelensky's departure for Oslo. Kulminski stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.

More on the Novy Urengoy gas condensation plant and also evidently the nearby Purovsky gas condensation plant that were both hit yesterday.
quote:

Falcon Insight is now flagging what the Russian side conveniently forgot to mention: NASA satellite data shows fire signatures at the Urengoyskaya compressor station, right next to the gas condensate plant hit by Ukrainian drones today.

That station feeds several pipelines moving gas out of Yamalo-Nenets into the rest of Russia. So the strike wasn't just about one plant. It hit the compression infrastructure that keeps the whole regional export chain breathing.

SSO confirmed the Novy Urengoy plant and also claimed the Purovsky plant, same profile, same region. That's not random. Ukraine is systematically degrading the gas processing and transport network that funds the war and keeps Russian industry warm.

Every compressor station burning means less throughput, more repair cycles, more money diverted from missiles and mobilization. Moscow will call it terrorism. It's logistics.

The country that turned energy into a weapon and winter into a negotiation tactic is now watching its own gas infrastructure become a target set. That's the cost of starting a war you can't contain.

quote:

At the pace Ukraine has been hitting gas and logistics nodes, the Yamal choke points are already inside the target set. Once Moscow has to reroute, repair, and subsidize around them, the job starts doing the damage for you.
quote:

Also, ~ 49% of Russia's electric power generation is from gas plants. So that could mean some blackouts after the gas pipelines stop working.
quote:

Gas is not only heat and cooking in moscovia, it also props up power generation. That is why strikes on compressors and processing nodes hurt twice: fuel supply and the grid. Kstovo, Kirishi, Omsk all showed how fast repairs eat time and money.

Polish FM Sikorski just laid out the obvious: Putin is repeating the Nazi mistake of bombing cities to break civilian morale.

It didn’t work on London. It didn’t work on Coventry. It didn’t work on Hamburg, Berlin, or Dresden either.

Killing 2, 12 civilians a day does nothing to stop Ukraine from defending the Donbas. It only makes people rally harder around their leadership.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is hitting oil refineries, actual military targets that burn Russia’s war machine.

Terror bombing is a confession of strategic failure.

“Weeks, Not Months”: Ukraine’s FP-7 Ballistic Missile Nears Battlefield Debut
Sep 10, 2026 15:46

Updated Sep 10, 2026 17:01

Ukraine’s FP-7 ballistic missile is now in military trials and could enter operational use within weeks, while its longer-range FP-9 may ultimately have to prove itself the hard way—against real Russian targets.

Ukrainian defense company Fire Point has moved its FP-7 ballistic missile into military trials after successfully completing two earlier stages of testing, bringing the weapon potentially within weeks of operational use.

Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh announced the milestone during the 34th International Defense Industry Exhibition MSPO, according to a UNITED24 Media correspondent on September 10.

According to Terekh, the FP-7 has already passed its first two testing phases and is now undergoing military evaluation, which is also part of the missile’s formal codification process.

The earlier stages included ground and laboratory testing, during which individual systems and subsystems were evaluated separately, including the rocket engine and navigation equipment.

WSJ article
quote:

For much of the conflict, Ukraine’s great advantage was its ability to adapt and innovate. Russia had more soldiers, more money and a far larger industrial base, but creative Ukrainian engineers could develop a new weapon or system, test it on the front line and modify it within weeks. Its decentralized networks of soldiers, engineers and defense tech companies iterated faster than Russia’s lumbering military bureaucracy could keep up.

That advantage is rapidly diminishing. When Ukraine developed interceptors that could destroy Russia’s swarms of Shahed drones, Russia adapted, deploying faster jet-powered Shaheds that are much harder to intercept. Russia is in the process of deploying a satellite constellation to rival Starlink, which Ukrainian drone units use to strike Russian forces in occupied Ukraine. For years the Kremlin’s strategy consisted of throwing industrial mass at Ukrainian innovation, but it is now combining that mass with its own innovations.

quote:

Russia is mobilizing for total war. It is considering another vast call-up of troops, which Ukraine expects to happen this fall, and is building the industrial capacity to produce weapons in extraordinary quantities. Ukraine cannot match such enormous capacity on its own. This coming winter will be critical. Russia is already exploiting Ukraine’s lack of ballistic missile defenses to strike power plants and substations with the objective of soon plunging Ukrainian people into darkness, cold and misery.

Ukraine has the engineers, the resolve and the spirit of innovation to fight this total war. What it lacks is the industrial scale that only its Western partners can provide. Ukraine urgently needs interceptors, ammunition and long-range strike weapons, alongside investment to expand its own manufacturing capacity. The West should treat Ukraine’s defense industry as an extension of its own, co-producing weapons, eliminating supply bottlenecks and ensuring Ukrainian commanders never have to ration their targets.

Russia admits that manufacturing is already short of workers.

This will not help its economy.

Confirmation on Purovsky.
quote:

Destroying Purovsky ZPK (NOVATEK) 09.09.2026, over 3000 km, - CyberBoroshno The liquefied hydrocarbon gas drying unit (LHG) was hit. It is this unit that brings the quality of LPG to international standards for export supplies. Purovsky ZPK processes all deethanized gas condensate from NOVATEK fields. The processing volume in 2024 is 13.2 million tons. The products - stable gas condensate and NGL - are sent by rail to the NOVATEK complex in the port of Ust-Luga for processing or export.

The big question I have is Russia really going to go for full mobilization, or will they just talk about it?

FWIW, you could read that article two ways. Is thus an accurate analysis or is this analysis designed to paint a bleak picture of Ukraine in order to gain sympathy and more aid?

As always stay tuned.
