Germans just voted for a a party whose single issue is helping Putin
The point to keep in mind is one of perspective. The AfD election victory represented 2.5% of the German population. That's 2 million Germans out of 82 million. That the media is making such a fuss is more a reflection on journalism than realpolotik.

An attitude that you see over and over again from Ukranians on X is that they think Ukraine, or at least the Ukraine war, is the sun that global geopolitics should orbit
Why wouldn’t they not push to keep Ukraine and the threat from Russia at the forefront? Whether you or I care doesn’t matter. It matters that Russia is trying to subjugate them and to do they they are killing their people.

Maybe you should read what I said again.
It's not about pushing it. That's expected, from all sides of the conflict.
It's the unrealistic worldview that their war is of the utmost global concern and should be priority number 1 for everyone. It just isn't, it never has been. Elbow your way to the table, absolutely. Don't try to tell people what their priorities are though.

They are trying to make people more aware of their plight, naturally. To scold them for that is pointless.
I’m sure Ben Franklin did the same when he politicked for France yo Sid us in our revolution. I’m sure Churchill lobbied FDR as hard as he could too.
Z and his people would be derelict in their duty not to go overboard in trying to get the West to help them.

Record strike of war: Ukraine's Special Operations Forces hit critical Russian plants 3,000 km away
VALENTYNA ROMANENKO — 9 September, 20:24
On 9 September, deep strike units within Ukraine's Special Operations Forces successfully hit two giants of Russia's gas condensate industry: the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants.
Source: Ukraine's Special Operations Forces (SOF)
Details: This was the deepest strike inside Russia since the start of the war.
Both facilities are located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, one of Russia's key oil and gas-producing regions. Ukraine's Special Operations Forces drones travelled more than 3,000 km to reach the targets. Until now, this area was considered an entirely safe rear zone for Russia, the SOF reported.
The facilities are critically important to the gas condensate industry. The plants prepare and process significant volumes of gas condensate extracted from fields in Yamal.
The Novy Urengoy Condensate Treatment Plant has a design capacity of 19.5mn tonnes of raw material per year, while the Purovsky Condensate Processing Plant processed 13.4mn tonnes of gas condensate in 2025.
The gas condensate industry is an important part of Russia's economy and generates revenue for the state budget.

Rybar reports Ukrainian successes in the Lyman direction. ISW does not report this why.

Key Takeaways
Russian President Vladimir Putin likely used his September 8 phone call with US President Donald Trump to push Putin’s misrepresentation of the battlefield situation. The Kremlin is notably maintaining its long-standing position that Ukraine accept all of Russia’s demands even as the battlefield dynamics have fundamentally changed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to express support for US proposals for intensifying negotiations by moving to a trilateral format.
A Russian drone spent just under one hour flying in Moldovan and Romanian airspace on September 8. The Kremlin benefits from such drone incursions into NATO and Moldovan airspace, particularly if Russia is using its faster jet-powered drones that limit the reaction times of states neighboring Ukraine.
Russian and open-source sources continue to report unconfirmed Ukrainian counterattacks near Lyman. ISW is not prepared to assess the extent or results of these counterattacks at this time, however.
Ukrainian forces continued their long-range strike campaign against oil infrastructure in Russia.
Russia launched an unspecified number of Onyx anti-ship missiles and Iskander-M, S-400, and KN-23 ballistic missiles, 32 Kh-101 cruise missiles, and 166 drones against Ukraine overnight. Russian forces recently advanced in the Pokrovsk direction and Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area.

Sorry Cope, your nation is more likely to no longer exist in the near future than it is to be part of NATO.
Is it though?
Granted, the NATO thing is a long shot and one that I don't think should happen even after the Ukrainians win this war, but you do understand that the Ukraine is going to join the EU and be brought deeper into the European fold while Russia continues to not only take losses by the millions but die on the vine in every possible way, right? Ukraine's uses - multiple - to Europe is clear: they are to be a buffer against Russian aggression, source of raw materials and food, and possible answer to America's silicon valley, all of which Europe needs and is going to support.
That, and the Americans overwhelmingly favor helping the Ukrainians and that the next administration, Republican or Democrat, is most likely go out of its way to repair the damage done by this administration also help them, right?
Ukraine is going to have population problems, that's true. But they've got a clear future with allies. The Russians clearly do not and are looking at any wins in local elections to save them when even the American President can't.

More "anything that isn't good for Ukraine is pro-Putin" rhetoric from the European establishment.
Well, yeah, that's what happens when you have two nations fighting for their lives in a stupid war. Most people, European or not, understand this.
quote:
At least from what I've seen, every single bullet point the AfD gets criticized for being "pro-Putin" on is something that is actually meant to help Germany.
Not when the Russians have declared their intention to take over the European continent multiple times, threatened Germany multiple times, and even sent drones to attack a German airport. The AfD is selling out their own country for power and happy to take help and credit from a man who intends to either a) install them as puppets; b) cut their throats; or c) (and most likely) both.
We just talked about this - Russia is not going to stop. They are going to keep attacking and there is no middle ground. The reason for 'keeping oil prices down' is based on the strategy the Russians had before the war, which is to get the Europeans dependent on cheap Russian oil and then use it to blackmail them into submission, something that has already failed, like all of Putin's grand designs in this war. Any pretense otherwise is beyond naive.

We are far too loose with labels nowadays on all sides of the aisle and internationally as well.
Not here we aren't.
Putin is a fascist, a killer, and a loser, and anyone who makes peace with him is a fool and a walking dead man.

THE FUC'K IT IS.
It's the biggest war since WWII with clear intentions by its instigators to make it larger and include us, it's openly an attack on an American led world order and western led civilization as a whole, is being backed by our biggest adversaries, is threatening nuclear holocaust, is affecting every human being who is linked into the world economy, is costing us far more than anyone here can imagine, and clearly has an American president who sees it as something that envisions the dumbest idea I've ever seen presented by a president.
And, oh, yeah, getting millions of people killed and millions more displaced while costing the world Trillions upon Trillions of dollars. No other issue in the world can come close to that right now.
Our handling of this war, from both the Trump and the Biden adminstration, is making us weaker by the day. This whole notion that we can just dunk our heads into the ground, and it won't affect us is beyond childish - it's weak, stupid, naive, and, yes, UNAMERICAN.
Jesus some people are just stupid.

You just got caught lying. In the Pew Research poll posted by the Kyiv Post in June only 29% of Americans said the US was not doing enough to help Ukraine.
You’re a typical liberal liar. But too big of a puss to go over and help yourself. Big on the keyboard

Well here's a poll from You.gov from earllier this year that shows that American's favor Urkaine 61% to 3% for Russia:
Poll: Americans favor sending more aid to Ukraine
It also states that
22% of Americans would maintain the same amount of aid
31% of Americans favor more aid
11% would decrease aid, and
13% would stop military aid altogether
So there's my source and that looks like a big advantage to me, and I'm willing to bet that it's gone up since then.
Now, let's all give TexAg a big hand for recovering from his hangover to join the conversation and show off his cool sunglasses:

Did you read the poll you posted?
Only 31% support increasing aid.
69% said maintain current levels, decrease or stop.
The US is currently not approving any aid to Ukraine.
Poor Leopold. Your hero got life in prison plus 7 years

Follow the money and resources. Where have they been going? Iran, and that's not even a ground war
Ukraine are a tool being used by the west. Some of y'all are just too stupid to see it or too emotionally invested. It's honestly sad how we have treated the Ukranians.

But you assume I agree with your opinion, or even value it for that matter.
You just rant/whine and speak in absolutes when you don't really know anything.
Even the conversation you were referring to here was you again missing the mark. I was speaking on ability to continue and you were speaking on willingness. It doesn't matter if Putin wants to continue if he can't anymore or if Ukriane were to collapse/capitulate.

A supposed military man like himself who is so passionate on the topic should sign up, IMO.
Willing to spend other people's money and blood but not his own. Cowardice.
